On March 18, 2009, 17-year-old Joshua L. Anderson, a junior at South Lakes High School, committed suicide at the family home in Reston.

Anderson was about to be expelled from school because an assistant principal discovered Anderson had been smoking marijuana when he caught Anderson returning to the campus after visiting a nearby Taco Bell.
