On February 24, 1949, Frances G. Holober, a pregnant woman from Washington, DC, was shot to death by her husband, jewelry store clerk Charles F. Holober, on the grounds of the Green Forest Club, a nudist colony in Pender.
After shooting his wife, Holober then proceeded to bury her and his still-living infant daughter June on the grounds.
