Lance Armstrong Relinquishes 7 Tour de France Wins

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/lance-armstrong-gives-up-fight-against-usada--raising-questions-about-his-innocence-.html

I knew this guy was bad news when he dated one of the Olson twins.

What a turd and what a fucking way to finally put an end to this long nightmare. A man who tried to build his false temple on the notion of "living strong" and "fighting hard" and "never giving up"...simply gave up.

The worst part about the giving up strategy is that from now until the day he dies the spin on this is going to be, "I never tested positive for anything. Never. I just stopped believing in a sport that I previously thought was worth fighting for. My last tour win was in 2005...7 years is too long to continue defending something you've already won. In the end I never tested positive for anything. Never."

How does a guy from one of the flattest places on earth which is so flat the town's name MEANS flat (Plano, TX) win cycling races with stages in the Alps? Drugs...that's how. Drugs. Fuck you Lance. Fuck you and your shriveled, cancer ridden scrotum...

I used to know a couple guys who were huge fitness buffs. You know the type; every conversation is about the workout they just had, their next workout, their diet, new techniques, talking about the science of spandex, etc. They had Lance Armstrong motivational calendars in their cubicle and repeated the catch phrases constantly.

They kept trying to get me to do a triathalon with them, and I remember one time after declining for the billionth time, they pointed at the Armstrong calendar and said, "That guy beat testicular cancer and won the Tour de France several times. What's your excuse for not even trying? Are you a pussy or something?"

That's why I love stories like this when a fraud gets exposed and suddenly is not the superhero everyone makes him out to be.

All athletes who finished top-five in the races he competed in were doping. Who are they going to give the win to? The racers who were also doping that weren't the targets of a years-long witch hunt of Armstrong?

Until they can run current tests on prior blood samples of athletes who competed in those races they shouldn't be stripping any wins from anyone. They are just handing the wins to the next cheater down.

Your'e right. Problem was Armstrong couldn't keep his mouth shut.
Ego will get you killed.

I don't get it...is it true he never tested positive? That he reportedly tested negative some 500 times?

Didn't the head of the anti doping agency said something along the lines of this is proof that he is guilty, because he doesn't fight it anymore?

Isn't that like the old "burn the witch at the stake" deal? If she dies, she wasn't a witch, but if she lives, she is a witch?

Is there some sort of double jeopardy going on?

On what basis are they continuing to accuse him of doping?

86% of Tour De France winners since 1967 have been implicated of drug use at one time or another

Lance Armstrong is a champion. Anybody who can win seven Tour de Frances and avoid testing positive for a decade is the Lance Armstrong of drug test evaders, in my book.

Our tax $$$ are funding this witch hunt. Since we are flat-out broke, we are borrowing funds from China to bankroll the ego of Travis Tygart. It's time for Congress to defund USADA!

So did he do it? He says they have no proof.

I don't follow cycling. Grown men on bicycles is just.....well...you know what it is: Weird.

Floyd Landis and the head mechanic for USPostal BOTH are on the record as having seen Armstrong shooting. Of course, they did not say with what. It could have been Vitamin B...

Lance has been tested allegedly hundreds of times and has never tested positive. So, either he's clean or he used something which the Doping Police can't detect yet.

trainers, doctors, and teammates, including Floyd Landis, who lost a TDF win due to doping

Its amazing how all of these investigations always seem to happen to athletes AFTER their careers are over (or almost over).

Lance was smart to give up the fight because the fight itself is what this anti-doping agency wanted more than anything else: publicity and grandstanding. They wanted to capitalize on Armstrong's fame as much as they wanted to "prosecute" him for alleged infractions.

The difference between Floyd Landis and the other TDF champs was that Lance Armstrong was never caught cheating at the time he won the titles. At most, all they have is hearsay evidence but it doesn't matter they got what they wanted, which was publicity.

I've watched the TDF for the past 10 years it has been broadcast in the U.S. and there were a number of years when Armstrong won the race simply through guile and cunning more than physical prowess. He had the better team, made better decisions than the other competitors. Winning the Yellow Jersey is more about not having a bad day than having a bunch of really good days -- just ask the winner of the 2011 TDF, Cadell Evans, who had a really bad series of days this year in the mountains.

This is the Pete Rose of our times.

Why can't people take NO for an answer?

Alias, swim across the English Channel. Alias, climb Mt. Everest. Alias, sail into the Bermuda Triangle.

NO!

I didn't understand it either. I'm like, "You want me to give up my weekend so I can go run, bike, and swim with a bunch of guys in spandex, and not only do I not get any money for doing so, but I actually have to pay a couple hundred dollars for the priviledge of pinning a paper number to my shirt?"

Yeah, sign me up twice.

Good for you. I always hated those things. I never understood how people thought a fifty-cent rubber bracelet was a better contribution to cancer awareness than donating money to a cancer-focused charity or volunteering for a cancer charity event.

I would wear one now, though, if someone made one that said "Cheat" instead of "Live Strong."

I have been friends with (3-time Tour-de-France winner and former teammeate of Lance) Gregg Lemond's son Geoff for over 10 years. They were from Minneapolis but Geoff is living in SanFran now...Anyway I remember back in like 2002 when Geoff started telling me about Lance being a cheater. He called the stuff that Lance was using as synthetic blood. He also said that his Dad got a ton of threats from Lance during that time.

USADA says it has evidence [PDF] that Armstrong had since 1999 led a conspiracy involving trainers and lab officials to encourage doping among certain cycling teams, as well as to cover up allegedly positive results from some riders. Two former members of Armstrong’s United States Postal Service (USPS) and Discovery Channel teams — Floyd Landis and Tyler Hamilton — confessed to doping and told the agency they knew Armstrong used banned substances to fuel several of his Tour victories between 1999 and 2005.

He got caught because he also doped his support riders, the domestiques.

How do you think Lance got the testicle cancer in the first place?
Cancer is a side effect of overuse of synthetic hormones.
Yeah, some hero.

In my opinion doping allegations have to have some common, basic level of "did" or "did not". To me that is a blood test using the best tech available at the time. Finding ten people to say he did it while hundreds of tests say he didn't means you don't take away wins. They should instead focus energy on how to improve testing, interviewing people they think saw it or were involved to find ways to improve the testing.

You have to assume that the cheaters are well-funded enough to put the time into testing riders to avoid testing positive. They were successful riders before extensive drug use. Success attracts sponsors. The money is directed toward building on that success including the use of drugs.
