Never seen such a fucked up party. Now the GOP can't even decided what the correct the plan is between the presidential candidate and the VP.

Keep the laughs coming republicans.

Oh and bring back Palin. She is a blast to watch speak.

Ryan's proposals, first introduced in 2011, include the provision that Medicare-approved private insurers would one day compete with traditional Medicare on an exchange. The proposal would not affect Americans over age 55. The plan's opponents say that would increase the financial burden on senior citizens.

On his website, Romney says Ryan's Medicare proposal "almost precisely mirrors Mitt's ideas," which include repackaging Medicare spending "as a fixed-amount benefit to each senior that he or she can use to purchase an insurance plan."

If they're going to privatize Medicare, they might as well open it up to everybody. People above a certain age get Medicare A for free. For those below 65, there would be a sliding scale for the premium depending on the age of the policyholder.

I'd like to know where people ages 30-55 now are supposed to get the money to continue paying outrageous insurance premiums with crushing deductibles when they hit 60. They were the most likely the ones affected by the Bush unemployment era and won't be able to adjust their already shitty retirement savings to account for private insurance.

How about lifting the cap on FICA payments to unlimited earned income and apply half those proceeds to Medicare? Why the fuck is there a $110k or so cap on this now?

In twenty years we will begin to see a decline in average American lifespan, as only the rich can afford healthcare and social security age is raised. Pretty soon the average lifespan will be below to SS benefits age and that's how the system will be saved.

Medicare's 1.45% payroll tax applies to all wage income.

Don't complain. It's only a matter of time before Medicare mans its offices with sharpshooters. SSA is now ordering 174K rounds of hollow point bullets.

For those of us below 55, I can tell you its been a real blast to pay a significant amount of your paycheck towards programs we will likely never see.

The whole idea of balancing the payments is bullshit. The programs were set up as a promise from the government that if you pay into it, you will receive the benefits. Now some are trying to make this into an insurance-like plan. What's ironic is that Obama and the congress set up the new health care to be set up that way already-- that you would have the government mandate to buy from insurance companies.

Isn't it fun that we have the government working so hard to make us all customers of insurance companies?

The problem is that it was a BS promise and the programs have not been run in a responsible way for about the last 50 years. We've had plenty of chances to fix things over that time. The only reason that it's not been done to date is that it was cast as a political hot-button issue.

The numbers don't work by any objective, independent measure. Especially when you add in all of the disability and survivors benefits sides. Given that, you can do one of two things:

- Ignore talking about it at all costs other than playing whatever proposals are made regarding necessary changes by your opponent as fear strategy as the Dems have done; or

- Make some proposals whether they're necessarily the end point where things would actually would shake out or not, at least you get something moving.

One way or anther you're going to have to either increase payments in and/or reduce payments out. That's just a fact. And it's at a magnitude that you're not talking about trivial amounts in either case.

There have been many serious proposals put forth over the years with nothing done to date other than minor adjustments here and there. Simpson-Bowles recommendations would be a good starting point. I'd expect that you're going to hear at least the Repubs talking more about them given that there's a lot of overlap with Ryan's similar proposals.
