One of my favorite female singers is Phoebe Snow.
This video is good except for the stupid banner thing. Why do people add that crap?

The sound quality is terrible in this video but it’s worth a listen just to hear her let loose.

Pink Floyd's Rick Wright died today :((

Here's the eponymous opening track from their album "Obscured By Clouds".

This is their finest album in my opinion. Pink Floyd at it's best.

RIP Rick

Marshall Crenshaw joined The MC5 for their reunion tour 3-4 years ago, I saw them at the Black Cat. He played guitar the whole set and sang a few songs (along with Evan Dando and Mark Arm). I was impressed, he still really rocks out. I never respected him when I was a kid, but he was totally a part of MC5 that night. Good stuff. He was giving credit where credit is due.

Meeper,
Obscured is one of my favorite Floyd albums as well. And I also loved Ricks last solo album "Broken China".
On Gilmours last tour (which included Rick), his band played Wots...uh the deal.

RIP Rick

I remember when Sheryl Crow was out promoting "Leaving Las Vegas," just before it hit big. She was at a college radio station in my town doing an interview. I lived a couple of blocks away from the station. The DJ invited folks to come by and meet her. I didn't go, but in hindsight I wish I had. You never know when someone is going to make it big like that.

Sheryl Crow is extremely talented and has a good background. She was an honor student in school, at one point she followed the Dead.

Rumor has it the person Crow was talking about in the song My Favorite Mistake is Eric Clapton. The rhythms in that song are perfect, not forced.

Paperback Writer is an awesome song. It's funny too, because last week the Howard Stern show kept playing a song parody someone sent him, it sounded exactly like The Beatles track, but instead of "Paperback Writer", it was "Robin's Vagina"... hilarious shit, I almost had to pull over from laughing so loud. The lyrics were so crude and degenerate it was GREAT.

Yeah, I definitely vibe on indie rap more than any of the mainstream crap that comes out nowadays. Stuff coming out of New York from the likes of the Definitve Junx label/collective is where it's at ( a blend of rap and alt/electronic shit reminiscent of Chuck D/Sonic Youth 'Kool Thang' collaboration).

FEAR performing on SNL on Halloween '81 is a cult classic piece of punk rock history. Check the 3:59 mark when Ian Mackaye grabs one of the mikes from the floor of the stage and yells "New York sucks!" at the beginning of FEAR's third song, 'Let's start a war'. The ensuing melee between the DC/GeorgetownPUNKS and the New York Crew is hilarious! The producers became scared of a full on riot and faded to commercial w/ an audience clap track...Oh to have been in the harDCore scene back in those days...Fucking priceless!

via videosift.com

Addendum: I'm pretty sure that's Ian who does the first stage dive, and I thought the crowd doing the 'we're not worthy' bow, years before Wayne's World, was rather humorous.

Speaking of remix, a few years ago I heard a version of Alicia Keys' Karma remixed with samples from Stevie Wonder's Superstition. I don't care for the original version of Karma, but the remix was fantastic! Anyone hear of it?

The Soundtrack of Our Lives put out some good music in the 90s/00s. Poppy alt-rock that sort of fell in between bombastic Brit-Invasion and 70s prog rock. Despite the good reviews from rock critics and a Grammy nomination, they're pretty much obscure.

File under good album rock music.

This vid is dedicated to the original FU 'rudeboy', and all-star Ganja Man, RES.
The clip is from the movie 'Human Traffic'; A hilarious British comedy that celebrates and pokes fun of the whole Junglist movement of the late nineties and early 00's. Anybody who was down w/ that scene will piss their pants w/ laughter watching this movie. Plus, seeing these fools dance around like complete uncoordinated idiots in the video is a gas as well! Ah...memories...Enjoy!
