Whats the cheapest beer you can stand?
Posted by: low budget suds ()

These hot afternoons we have been dealing with lately have gotten me drinking Busch light from a can of course, buried in ice. When I pull one out of the cooler little ice cubes are still stuck to the rim and that shit is COLD!

In a blind taste test you cannot distinguish bush light from bud light.

Same goes for coors light and keystone light.

Beer makes you gassy and fat.

Start drinking Jack and diet Coke.

PBR is the lowest I go. It's cheaper because they don't have a national ad campaign like other brands.

I can't drink the cheaper shit like Busch or Keystone. It tastes like water you've cooked corn in.

You know, Fosters USED to be the schnizzle! I loved those oil cans.

Then , one day it started to taste like shit and give me a headache.

I noticed only then that it wasn't brewed in Australia anymore, but in Texas and Canada.

Same thing with Sapparo, Lowenbrau , Red Stripe and Guinness.

They were ALL righteous brews until they passed off the production elsewhere.

Now they're all just Iron City in a fancy bottle. Yuk.

Back in high school: anything that I could get my hands on as long as it had alcohol in it

Nowadays: anything that I can get my hands on as long as it has alcohol in it….once I’m drunk enough. Becks or St. Pauli Girl to start though. Or vodka straight out of the bottle if it’s gonna be one of those nights.

I tested how low I could go when I tried the Walgreens house brand "Big Flats" for three bucks a six pack. Reviews were right, headache shortly following and it tasted like total shit. The light variety wasn't as bad but I'm never going back to either. Why did I buy it? Because fucking Consumer Reports rated it higher than Corona Extra, which I also think tastes like crap but thought how bad could the beer be for fifty cents each if it outranks a bigger name? Not renewing, they did me wrong.

Best cheap beer for me is Natty Light.

+1, Yuengling Light is the perfect balance between price and taste. Yes, there are better tasting light beers, but they cost more. There are also cheaper light beers that taste like shit. Catch it on sale and there's nothing that comes close...

Back in the 80's safeway had their own beer brand called scotch buy. Back then it was $1.09 per six-pack. I am almost ashamed to admit that I drank like 100 six-packs of that crap at JMU back in the day. It was Falstaff in disguise.

Coors light is rehydrating beer. i could drink a 12 pack in high school and barely be buzzed. Its what beer drinkers drink when they're not drinking beer.....or need to rehydrate.

there was a bar near my parent's place that sold quarts of Old German for $1.25 back in the mid to late 90s.

If that's not targeting alcoholics and underage drinkers, I don't know what is.

First off, I can't stand any "Lite" beer. Jeez, that all tastes like water. And isn't "Coors Lite" just redundant? The only stuff that's passable is Sam Adams Light. But that's not cheap, just Light.

As for Yuengling--I've tried that a few times and it tastes like skunk water.

Back in the stone ages, when I was in high school and college, I remember drinking Schaeffer ("The One Beer to Have When You're Having More Than One") and thinking it was OK.

Nowadays, for me, price isn't really an issue. But if it were, I'd just drink less so that I could spend more per bottle or can or glass.

Schaefer is old school, that's the kind of beer you'd see in my grandparents fridge back in the day. When I was in college there was a place that sold 3 cases of Schaefer for 20 bucks- a total bargain. It's probably hard to find nowadays (not that you'd be out searching for it). IIRC, it's sorta like Beast or Old Mil.

I hate these Bozos that come over to my house saying they will supply the beer and bring over some fruity tasting home made beer, like if they are some kind of Master brewers. Hey! Your beer sucks, get off your high horse and dump that wishful thinking along with that lousy stuff. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! Bring over some Corona, Mexico has some good brew but it was taught to the Mexicans by the Germans who almost owned that country years ago, they really don't deserve the credit, the Mexicans, for Corona. Takes a long time to master the art of beer or wine making, and you guys have a lot of learning to do.

Or when they say they'll bring the beer and then they bring stupid stuff. I invited a buddy over to watch football last year and said I'd make wings, and he said "I'll bring the beer" so I didn't bother to pick any up. And he showed up with 2 sixpacks of Great Lakes Porter. I was hoping to pound down some regular old beer and chow down on wings. Who the hell wants to drink a whole six pack of porter? It's not bad beer, but christ, one is enough. Not six.

^ This. Not sure how the fruity beer nonsense got started.

In other news, last night I bought a case of 'Hardywood Richmond Lager' for $10.99 at Safeway. Yes, craft beer made in Richmond. Odd stubby little bottles. Tastes about like you'd expect beer made in Richmond to taste. Kind of off for the first few sips but once you get past that it's not awful. By half-way through the 2nd one it starts to taste OK. But better than most of the standard cheap beers anyway. Not sure that it's supposed to be that cheap but that's what the sign said. May have charged the 6-pack price since both bar codes are on the box. Not near worth $10.99/six if that's what it's supposed to be but for a case it's swillable.

I am not a huge beer fan, and particularly hate cheap beer, but Miller High Life is a nice, lite, not-too-skunky quaff on a hot day. It simply isn't offensive the way most cheap beers are.

Also, I think the mini-bottles are cute. Totally useless to me, as I need more beer than that, but sometimes when my folks come over for dinner and my mother wants just a taste of beer, one of those little bottles seems to suit her fine!
