Culture clash at the Olympics
Posted by: FUNdamental ()

Time magazine is telling Americans who travel to the Olympics that the food portions dolled out in British restaurants are much smaller than the food portions served in American restaurants. The small portions are normal in Britain, and they advise Americans not to complain about slender portions on their plates when going out to eat.

And the meat is different. Grass fed vrs corn fed. But they will learn what a proper size of a beer is.

Food is sweetened with sugar over there instead of high fructose corn syrup -- and they use less sweeteners in general.

To be honest though, the Brits aren't known for their food. Fish and chips in a pub with a pint of bitter never gets old though. If you're looking for some good food in London, get the Indian food. No lie. Its excellent.

First, there is no such article or feature in Time that I can find which leads me to believe that you are making this up.

Second, go to the Hawksmoor. Their portions will more than satisfy any American appetite.

I'm sure most of the Americans who go will hang out at the McDonald's or TGIFridays that were built at the Olympic Village for this occasion. British food may suck, but so does American apathy for anything unfamiliar.

Here is AP addressing the same issue.

That is not Time Magazine. Please provide adequate sourcing so that those of us wanting to research the matter further will not be sent on a wild goose chase. Thank you.

Um, Time magazine is a member of the Associate Press (AP), and often times publishes AP works or works derived from AP leads or "skeletons." AP, may also publish Time magazine pieces. Many times when member of AP publishes AP works (in print), because other members of the Associated Press publish the same piece in print, they are contractually forbidden to put that piece under a specific publication logo on the internets.

But your said "research" knows the ins and out of AP membership guidelines, correct?

Yeah England is so much better, the women are mostly inbred pigs, the men are usually pretentious skinny fat douches, the cars are small and cramped, the houses are 1500sqft small cramped spaces with no storage space filled with compressed cardboard furniture from Ikea located and will run you 1million Ponds 30min outside Central London, the plumbing anywhere is 200 years old and all the bath rooms smell like the Potomac river during an August heatwave.

I have not consulted E&P lately to discern whether Time is a contributor to the AP. However, simply because one member of the AP publishes a story does not mean that all AP members use it or that even the AP uses it (despite the fact that the AP is generally given such permission). Conversly, just because the AP produces a story, it does not mean every subscriber and member will use it.

None of this indicates that this story appeared in Time, which is what you contended.

Intimately.
