The man was 52-year-old Michael Marmon Knockett. The photo below is a verified photo of Knockett taken moments before he was killed. (Original at PilotOnline.com at

The family's attorney, Carl LaMondue, is going to pocket about 40% of the $500K settlement, leaving them with about $300K. From PilotOnline.com
During a hearing in Circuit Court, Judge H. Thomas Padrick Jr. initially rejected the deal after the family of Michael Knockett said they had thought the offer was for nearly twice as much, $900,000, and would rather take the case before a jury than accept the lower sum. Deputy City Attorney Christopher S. Boynton said that much was never on the table.
But in a change of heart, three of Knockett's biological children reconvened about 15 minutes later and accepted the $500,000 to satisfy their claim. They had originally sued for $25 million.
The agreement means that, after paying attorneys and court costs, Knockett's daughter, Inena Tatem, will take home about $201,000, and his two sons will receive about $43,000 each, said Tatem's attorney, Carl C. La Mondue. A third biological son, who is in prison for murder, agreed to the settlement and waived his rights to any of the money, an attorney told Padrick.
Hopefully, they're going to donate the settlement to a charity dedicated to helping the homeless in memory of their father.
