I fail to see why this 'you people' thing is a big deal. She clearly means, "you lefties in the media". Is anyone surprised?

After 50 or so campaigns, you'd think Romney would realize that something like this will just continue to boil and not go away. At some point, he's either going to have to release the records or continue to allow the Democrats to just hammer away at his credibility.

I personally believe the tax records show a massive donation to the LDS church, which Romney is worried will cause Christian conservatives to get cold feet. "This guy really believes that Jesus and Satan were brothers???" That would be a hard sell in Alabama/Mississippi/etc....

I think it's quite likely the tax records show that AND show zero taxes being paid for more than one of the years. Personally I don't really care too much about THOSE obvious things - the guy's rich, he has his legal "causes", his investments probably did get clobbered like a lot of others and his financial wizzes figured out how to use that clobbering to not pay taxes using perfectly legal (though controversial still!) means.

What COULD be damaging, however, is if he had to RE-file taxes, say with an accompanying penalty, because someone stretched the "legal means" too far.

But, in general, just paying zero taxes, legal or not, could be politically damaging more than not revealing the taxes in the first place.

"You people" was a Ross Perot statement to an audience of black people, so the term became synonymous with racism.

Ross Perot was a politician, Mitt Romney's wife is not, but that won't stop Democrats from delivering the message "See, Mitt Romney is a racist. His wife said 'you people' " to its base.

It's not a racist thing. It's "you people" as in "you little people."

Didn't they take a $75,000 deduction for Ann's dressage horse because she used it for "therapy"?

I'm thinking that he doesn't want to release the tax returns because of more revelations like this.

"I love the fact that there are women out there who don't have a choice and they must go to work and they still have to raise the kids."

What a remarkably stupid thing to say. Yes, how quaint - the little people don't have a choice and have to work and raise kids at the same time. **shudder** ("Thank God that's not me!")

Elections are often determined by these kinds of statements. McCain's campaign imploded when he said the economy was fundamentally sound during the banking crisis. Ford lost in part because he said Poland wasn't under the influence of the Soviet Union. Bush Sr. lost in part because he was too busy looking at his watch to listen to concerned voters. Gore lost for sighing too much. Elections are often won or lost on stupid shit people say or do, not the issues.

Google the term, it is far and away understood to be racist.

Yeah, good luck with that. lol Especially some passing statement that the guy's wife said.

Now if you want to talk about something like "You didn't build that" which tends to stick with a candidate, then you might have a point.

This will be a long forgotten memory by next week.

In this context, I don't think it was meant to be racist. She thinks ALL Americans are little people, not just blacks.

Well you just keep on hoping WTL. And this goes for the rest of all you Obama sycophants.

If you think Ann Romney's "you people" comment, tax return disclosures, dogs riding in car top kennels, having wealth, nanny's, Cayman Island bank accounts, Bain Capital or all of these contrived attacks combine are going to outweigh 1% GDP growth, 16% real unemployment, deepening recession, Obamacare, Soaring taxation, vanishing income and wealth, all out war on the private sector you are only fooling yourselves.

There is a reason Obama's campaign spent a record $2 million plus on internal polling for the month of June alone. It is called desperately searching for traction. The issues above ain't gainin' any traction.

Obama is in trouble........Big trouble. And you can bet on his communist mothers grave he knows it.

Even with all of the Bain bashing, the best issue they have, and all of the spending that they did relative to it and the drones out in force pushing that narrative, it did squat to move the polls. lol

People aren't as stupid and able to be manipulated as much as some seem to think.

Agreed. The phrase, "Its the economy, stupid" still applies. Fears that Spain is going to fall into the shitter are shaking the markets again today. If the economy is still lagging come election day, Obama will join the ranks of the unemployed.

Yup. And it's getting to the point that there's very little chance that's going to change for the better in any significant way. Far more downside risk.

Always find it funny that people think that things like #youpeople etc are effective. On either side, you're just talking to yourselves.

Obama is spending $2 million on polling because his people know how to run a campaign. They realize the economy is going to be flat come November, and it is going to be nibbling at a variety of groups that is going to put him over the top. Bain is for the Blue Collar workers in Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania. The War on Women is for suburban housewives in Virginia, North Carolina and Colorado.

The fact is Obama can't do anything about the economy at this point. I'm sure the hope is unemployment dips below 8 percent between now and November. At that point, pushing the margins may be what it takes to win.

Just because these messages don't appeal to you...Republicans who won't be voting for Obama anyway...doesn't mean they won't appeal to someone who will determine the outcome of the election.

“For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,”

“Iowa will make the difference,” Mrs. Obama said. “If Barack doesn’t win Iowa, it is just a dream. If we win Iowa, then we can move to the world as it should be.”

From the February 11, 2007, edition of CBS’ 60 Minutes:

KROFT: This is a tough question to ask, but a number of years ago, Colin Powell was thinking about running for president, and his wife, Alma, really did not want him to run.

MICHELLE OBAMA: Mm-hmm.

KROFT: She was worried about some crazy person with a gun.

MICHELLE OBAMA: Mm-hmm.

KROFT: Is that something that you think about?

MICHELLE OBAMA: I don’t lose sleep over it, because the realities are that, you know, as a black man, you know, Barack can get shot going to the gas station, you know. So, you know, you can’t — you know, you can’t make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen. We just weren’t raised that way.

Sorry, I'm a moderate and about as independent as they come. I've switched sides many times and regularly vote split tickets and I'm all over the place on specific issues. Obama's campaign has pretty much failed with me and most of the 'normal' folks I know and work with. I'd agree with your assessment that the strategy is to try to slice off various groups but he's pretty much just cutting slightly larger pieces out of his own pie. Might help with base turnout, but isn't going to win over many undecided and independents. Hate to break it to you but the Bain and WOW type crap is very transparent and really comes off as a negative in that regard.

" Bain is for the Blue Collar workers in

Read unions.

The War on Women
> is for suburban housewives in Virginia, North
> Carolina and Colorado.

They gave up on that after National polls and there own polling showed it failing.

"The rhetoric from President Barack Obama and Planned Parenthood over a supposed “War on Women” apparently hasn’t had its intended affect of causing women voters to distrust Mitt Romney. In fact, new polling data reveals Romney experiencing an uptick with his support among women.

The ABC News/Washington Post poll shows a sharp increase in his standing with women has boosted Mitt Romney to his highest favorability rating of the presidential campaign while Obama’s favorability has slipped. According to an ABC News report on the poll:" http://www.lifenews.com/2012/05/30/war-on-women-rhetoric-fails-romney-gains-13-with-women/

It is funny. A substantial portion of money spent on polling in campaigns is spent on focus grouping and trial balloons. Right now Obama hasn't been able to come up with shit to make him shine past Romney's numbers.

Obama does have a few aces up his sleeve like his recent vacating the 1994 Welfare reform law work requirement and illegal immigrant ICE enforcement. He'll promise to forgive or relieve in some way student loans to motivate the young voters. also look for a promise in his second term to forgive in some way mortgages in foreclosure or something.

Anyway here is where we stand today after record spending on Obama's campaign, especially at this stage of the campaign, according to Rasmussen.

"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows Mitt Romney attracting 46% of the vote, while President Obama earns support from 43%. Six percent (6%) prefer some other candidate, and five percent (5%) more are undecided."http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

Not much bang for the buck there.

Which group do you belong to anyway? I bet you fancy yourself the level headed, down the middle, issue by issue, independently, open minded liberal who doesn't think he is a liberal type and therefore smarter than most Obama supporter.
