Am I a Drug Addict?

when I take my Ambien, everything gets a little easier to handle, the tension relieves a little bit (or a lot), and I feel happier and much more optimistic about life in general. And then when I'm not on it, I feel like I'm being poked and prodded with pins and needles, walking on a razor's edge, a ball of nerves, everything could turn to shit in the blink of an eye, and an overall feeling of 'what's the point'?

this is obviously not good. Is Ambien an addictive substance? I know this is bad.....I know it reveals something of a major problem with me psychologically.....but does it mean that I am an addict? Could I just as easily become an alcoholic? Or a junkie? THe only problem with illicit drugs being that I'm not street smart enough to cop drugs without getting rolled. SO, I should never take up drinking, right? I'm an addict in waiting, don't you think?

this is a serious question. I know some of you here have experience with substance abuse. I would appreciate your opinions.

thanks.

Find something else to do, like exercising, running, P90X. You'll feel better and know that drinking/popping pills will only hinder your progress.

WTF is this a serious question? My ambien came with a being warning label that says, "Ambien may be habit-forming..." The fuck do you think that means?

Yes, if you quit you will have withdrawal symptoms, have fun with that.

However, those other things aren't as addictive as ambien.

But seriously, read the fucking label of your prescriptions, retard.

I don't think the world is going to run out of Ambian soon, and if it helps, and nothing else does what not just keep taking it?

Just be advised, that this is a conversation you should be having with the doctor that prescribed it to you.

Call your doctor and tell him you want to slowly reduce your dosage down. You will need a couple of weeks to wean yourself off. Do not go cold turkey unless you want to drink some wine before you go to bed each night. Not a good idea.

Ambien is addictive, as are all other sedatives, painkillers, muscle relaxers, mood elevators or stimulants.

Doctors who pass this shit out with such ease are quakcs who are bought and paid for by Big Pharma. There are legit uses for these drugs, but they are being given to way too many people for the wrong reasons.

Nurse Jackie is right stepping it down and the warning about staying away from alcohol- a lot of heroin/opiate/sedative users transition into being serious alcholics and are just as miserable if not more.

At the same time, try to figure out WHY you are not sleeping before your mind and body decide it's because of the lack of Ambien.

Exercise helps with sleep. You should try it. I sleep like a rock if I've run that day.

Once the Ambien wears off- do you HAVE to have another right away to function?

Or can you walk away from it/put it away? If you can leave it alone, you're fine. It's probably a psychological addiction.

If you find you can't live/function without it-talk to your doc. There's a problem.

Give it a good few weeks to get out of your system and work with your doc to taper down to 0- don't go cold turkey.

the only problem is, I've taken about fifty tablets since Friday, out of a prescription filled for 60.....so, no tapering. Controlled substance. Can I drink alcohol once I run out of ambien to get to sleep? Or will I become an alcoholic? I've never drunk alcohol except maybe two or three times. Didn't like it. Would anyone recommend just going ahead and becoming alcoholic? Life is screwed already, so why not, right? lemme no

Ralph's advice is the best. Exercise, even just a 30 minute walk, will help you sleep better than Ambien or any other drug.

Taking anything to help you sleep/stay awake for an extended period of time is going to have some serious consequences not only on your health, but also on your mental health.

Drinking to help you sleep or taking sleeping pills will quickly lead to dependence. Addiction is the least of your problems once you are addicted to these things -- your liver, heart and nervous system are all affected by long term use.

If you need it to sleep, then you are addicted.

Alcoholism is a poor choice. It will kill you eventually, and until then you will probably ruin a lot of things such as you career, relationships etc, assuming you have those things.

Ambien is bad news though. I know one guy who sleepwalked on it. He got in his car and hit a bunch of cars in his apartment garage, then hit a cop car on the street. He was convicted for DUI and lost his license for 6 months. He said there were several others in court for the same reason.

You sound depressed. I think you need to address the underlying causes of your stress/anxiety/unhappiness rather than just treat the symptoms. Good luck.

Troll. I would help, but you don't take an ambien to sleep and wake up a drug addict. As always, just my 2 cents.
