The Exasperation of Owning a Vintage Car

I own a 1970 Ford Torino. I bought the car 20 years ago and enjoy taking it out when the weather's nice or over to cruise-ins throughout the area. It's not ready for the Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach however, it passes everything but the gas station and is similar to the one my Dad owned when I as growing up.

Up until 10 years ago, I'd get the usual, "Hey man, nice car..." sometimes additional discussion would continue sometimes not.

Now for the past 10 years all I seem to get is, "Hey man...does it have a Cobra Jet?" as if to imply this is the only REAL Torino.

Take it to the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas- they might give you $2,500 for what you got, and you can be on TV!

Just respond with "Yeah...the 300 six cyclinder version" and watch the reaction. If they're still all pumped up, they don't know shit about older cars and are just using the lingo because it's cool.

Those that know cars wouldn't give a shit one way or the other.

If it bothers you that much, throw a crate CJ in it and sell it. At auction the replicas are bringing more than the originals anyway.

Just go out and buy some Cobra Jet badges. If someone asked to see it say you chained the hood down and lost the key or say it will cost you.

When I drive my boyfriend's car, I get a lot of questions. But I rarely know the answer. Not a car person.

Your man drives a Tang Hua?!?!?! Holy shit! My uncle has one of those...it has the posi-rear with a big block and coil-over-springs. He was thinking about adding a shaker scoop but I told him he should leave it like it is...

Man...did she just drop Tang Hua all up in here? Wow...
