Another Way the Internet has made People Lazy

Sometimes its just faster to call someone up if you have a question about something instead of digging around a website for the info.

I've been noticing more and more that when I call a company or gov't office with a question the first response is not the answer but "You can find that online".

Yeah I f'ing know that now please answer the question.

Good point. Problem is: Too often they DON'T know the answer to the question. They just know--or think they know--that it's online.

And if you get online, can't find the answer, but think you're in luck because a pop-up screen offers life chat . . . think again. I don't know why, but that's generally painfully slow. "Agent Typing." Forever. And the agent (always with a name like Bill or Sue . . . so why do I assume I'm communicating with someone in India?) misunderstands the question. Or takes forever responding--probably doing the same search on the same site as I did, but ultimately failing to find the answer, either.

Arrgghh!

My recent expeirence was a phone call the FFX Zoning office. The woman i spoke to was indigent that my tiny brain was incapable of using the shitty website to answer my question about special permitting. The site said to call the zoning office for any question about special permitting.

A lot of time companies just dump info on their site with little organization of that info and are like "hey...go find it fuck-0"

It is Business Logic 101. It is cheaper to train people to refer you to undecipherable websites than it is to train them to actually deal with your questions.
