Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
About a week ago, I lost my phone in my basement while I had some friends over. I set it to go charge it, but I felt that I should go get a charger soon. When I went to go get the charger, I couldn't find it at all. I decided to search for it in the morning, and when I got up, I still couldn't find it. I got my mother to search every corner of the basement, including my pants pockets, and every other relevant place while I was at work. Still no luck. I myself have searched every corner of the basement and still can't find it at all. I even looked in the most not-so-obvious areas, but nothing. Any tips? Anything I can use to locate my phone? Anything at all?
You lost your phone, mang? Well, unless you had missing Zapruder film footage saved on it, just buy a new phone. Regardless, if you don't find it and are worried about it being used, call your network provider and have them suspend the phone's use until you call back and re-activate it.
Whenever I lose something, I stop looking for it. Usually, I find it under a pillow or in a drawer or something by accident in less than a week. On rare occasions, I'll find what I was looking for as soon as I replace it. It's just one of the many ways the universe gets a laugh at your expense.

A purchased cell phone is not a big deal. A purchased Smartphone is a big deal - upwards of $500 for a new one (not on a contract). Unless you want to find someone else's cast off on Ebay.
Sounds like one of your friends took it. Either that, or you think you set it down but you shoved it in your pants when you went to get the charger. So, look thoroughly wherever you went to get the charger.
Another idea: Have those friends back over for a "find the cell phone" party. Tell them you'll give the person who finds it $25 (or $50 or whatever). If it's legitimately still there and someone finds it, great. And if someone was pulling a prank on you, it's a way for the person to come back, "find" the phone, and pick up some easy cash.
If a friend picked it up and has recharged it (unlikely), some phone services such as Verizon have a "Mobile Recovery" service that uses GPS. (My wife uses it all the time to track our son. Yes, he knows!). It's often not terribly accurate--sometimes within 50 feet, sometimes 50 yards, sometimes 500 yards. But if one of your friends does have it and has recharged it, you'll be able to find it that way.
