I'm totally on board with the idea that these kids were assholes and in need of at least moderate beatings...And it's especially cruel that stuff like this gets proudly posted online by the bullies..This is an old woman who is someones daughter, mother, sister, grandma- whatever- she's a human being and these little dickheards are NOT cool.. The rub is this... after having had her crying digital image posted on Youtube for the world to see her humiliation, someone decided to pass around that hat and give this poor old gal a vacation. The viral video and fundraising spread and this morning, this old woman has over $425,000 she didn't have two days ago.

A beautiful thing in many ways.. For one it shows that Americans are compassionate and disgusted by the behavior of bullies. It shows that Americans are willing to help. I'm glad she found a silver line from this cloud of ugly and it's nice.

But this amount disturbs me. $425,000?

The fundraising/donation drive was to get the stressed and humiliated bus monitor a vacation. She has enough dough now to probably retire. Or buy a pretty nice vacation chalet in the Finger Lakes or Catskills.

When the donations atarted coming in, didn't some people see the amount raised at ten or twenty grand and think "hey, that's nice, but that's enough for her"?

If you saw this sad video and felt a little bad for her, but saw she had raised $200,00- would you really feel compelled to drop more greenbacks on top of that, instead of maybe to a local charity?

Burn victims?

Crippled kids?

Abused pet shelters?

Starving and impoverished Third World villages?

The kindness of this amount amazes me, but so does the disproportionate nature of the whole thing. I hate those kids and what they did, but this woman would have been "Queen for a Day" with $50K and people would have had more money to donate to other worthy causes.

And instead of raising kids who aren't vicious little demons or maybe even intervening in nasty situations of bullying, Americans are more willing to be shcoked by a video- and then throw money at the victim in hopes it will go away.

Be nice, but maybe not this fucking nice?

(I am also somewhat skeptical that all of these donations will be verified, maybe like they are some of those phony Ebay bids of years ago)

I pulled up the donation page at indiegogo - http://www.indiegogo.com/loveforkarenhklein - and you get hit up for your credit card information when you go to the contribution page, so I'd venture that a goodly number of those donations are both real and funded.

The original goal for Ms. Klein's dream vacation fund was $5K, but it's been overwhelmingly exceeded and was at $453K when I visited the page just now.

Likely Klein will give away a good portion of the money (she looks like a soft touch), unless her dream vacation included a flight on Virgin Galactic, and even then she'd still have a few hundred thousand bucks left over.

We also haven't heard how much she's going to get for her story rights to make a movie. I'd suspect another couple hundred thousand is in the offing for those- depending on if it's a Lifetime crapfest or a Movie Film for Theaters.

I just clicked the link and in the seven minutes sine Kaching said it was $453K, it's up another two grand...

If one of these little heathens was my kid I would personally administer punishment to him for disrespecting any adult. These kids should be banned from school for a year and held back one year to set an example of what not to do. But of course the old "no child left behind rule" whether they deserve to move up or not applies. We got all kinds of young kids who can now program remotes or text at 2000 + words a minute and can post videos to youtube blindfolded. But they can't find Nebraska on a map and can't figure out 8x8 without a calculator or smart phone. The old tried and true old rule of "spare the rod. spoil the child" applies here. I'm not condoning beating kids or anything, but when I was younger in school. I had a few pointer whacks from teachers when I got out of hand and now much later in life I'm appreciative of the fact that they kept me in line. Just my .02

I doubt very much that she chose this to happen to her. Seems genuine enough. Let the amount raised speak to the reaction the video evokes among us.

I'm feel happy for her that all of these people are rallying behind her and giving her support. I hope those kids realize down the road how big of assholes they were. In 10 years time they will probably end up spending countless hours on the internet posting on a web forum such as this one.

What will a financial windfall like this do to a woman like her? DUNNO, we don't know anything about her at all, other than kids are sometimes dicks and it was kind of sad to see someone treated that way.
