US to stop deporting young illegal immigrants

Looks like they'll automatically receive work visas. They come out in the open, identify who they are and who they work for. I assume there are no penalties against the employers.

Under the administration plan, illegal immigrants will be immune from deportation if they were brought to the U.S. before they turned 16 and are younger than 30, have been in the country for at least five continuous years, have no criminal history, graduated from a U.S. high school or earned an equivalent degree, or served in the military. They also can apply for a work permit that will be good for two years with no limits on how many times it can be renewed.

The policy won't lead toward citizenship but will remove the threat of deportation and grant the ability to work legally, leaving eligible immigrants able to remain in the U.S. for extended periods.

The change is likely to cause an outcry from congressional Republicans, who are sure to perceive Mr. Obama's actions as an end run around them. Republicans already have complained that previous administration uses of prosecutorial discretion in deportations amount to back-door amnesty. Mr. Romney and many Republican lawmakers want tighter border security measures before considering changes in immigration law. Mr. Romney opposes offering legal status to illegal immigrants who attend college but has said he would do so for those who serve in the armed forces.

Obama might think this is going to make everybody feel warm and fuzzy
but he will pay the price in November.

Yeah, but this is basically the Republican version of the Dream Act (Stars Act) so Obama just punked them...

There's one major difference: One is policy, the other potential law.

I am sure Obama is doing this because he believes in it. Nothing to do with election year nor his Justice Dept letting people vote without proving citizenship or ID.

How will they verify that? I'm sure they'll look for school records, but what if an illegal says his parents kept him out of school for fear of being caught? And if they have a GED then FREE PASS! WhoHoo!

Other than entering the United States illegally. I wonder if they'll check their IRS payment history. Nahh, that'd be too hard..

Oh. And what happens if they commit a crime after they get this INS/ICE pass - like six of the 9/11 hijackers did? Ooops! Oh shit! Guess they fucked up on that one.

Should have kept better track of those student visas I guess. Not to worry, I'm *sure* they'll do a better job this time.

"Mr. Romney and many Republican lawmakers want tighter border security measures before considering changes in immigration law."

I sort of think border enforcement along the southern border is better now than under Bush. But Obama et al probably concerned about the election decided to do this to garner votes.

I think now the biggest problem is the chain migration. Probably illegals from south asia and asia coming into u.s. from all directions. And then you got pseudo legals bringing in everyone they can get away with these days. exponential growth.

btws, those the Obama administration had previously deported south who would have fallen under this new policy,do they get to come back?ole'

Boarder crossing are at a 50 year low: But that is more to do with higher risk (drugs wars) and low rewards (no jobs):

No they would have had to been in the country for at least 5 year. Plus the worker visa expires then they would have to go back to their home country to get it renewed. If you went to another country for any reason since 2007, then no dice.

The big thing is bringing in guest workers through the J1 visa now. You can pay mules to bring in you over the border, which is the old way, or you can pay a school to bring you over here to get a job.
