In 1969, AMF, maker of sporting goods equipment, was casting about for a new area of profit following the collapse of the bowling craze, so they bought the Harley-Davidson motorcycle company. So, amongst the Harley jihadists...an AMF Harley is not a real Harley then?

Amongst true Harley "jihadists" as you call them, those were known as the Dark Days for the factory. People still bought the bike because of brand loyalty, but nobody was happy. Basically, a group of Harley employees pooled their funds and bought the company back from AMF.

Also, in this sad place known as Fairfax Underground, someone once made an offhand remark about AMF Harleys, which was misinterpreted as an insult to all Harleys, or something, so at this point, it's become a easy way to piss off the fatsos who consider themselves to be "real" Harley riders...just say something like, "I can't get my AMF Harley started," and the angry retards will come boiling out of the hive.

See this is what I don't get about this meme...why do the AMF-ers get all shitty and boil out of the hive when it's an understood fact amongst the biker community that AMF Harleys are sub-standard?

No, that's not it either...it's hard to fathom...AMF Harleys aren't necessarily all bad, and anyone who keeps an old AMF Harley running gets some points, but it seems to be that if you make any reference to an AMF Harley, good or bad, you get attacked by some 'tard that takes umbrage, saying that he has an AMF Harley, and you're makin' fun of it, etc, etc.

Most modern Harley owners couldn't even start an AMF Harley (the ones with only kickstarters).

The meme started when people just ran with the AMF addition to any sentence about Harleys, I guess...
