New RUSH Album "Clockwork Angels" Available NOW!

I got mine at Penguin Feather yesterday. They were out of the 8-Track but they're ordering it for me. In the meantime, they had this new format called compact disc. I couldn't get it to play in my GMC van's deck but, I'm told it's quite good. The band will be at Jiffy Lube Live on September 9th...the lawn is sold out but, good pavilion seats are still available.

Will sharpen you up and make you ready for a bit of the old ultraviolence?

I pre-oredered it from Amazon and I'm pissed because everyone else has before I do. Oh well, at least it was cheaper.

I like rush. Roll the bones is a good tune.

I was surprised at how fast the lawn seats sold out. In 2010 during the Time Machine tour we got lawn tix a week before the show. This year, we actually had to get lawn seats from some Stubhub type of site. JLL was showing sold out a week after they went on sale.

Yeah, it's weird about the lawn at JLL. I mean, I've seen RUSH on every tour since Signals so, it's hard for me as a jihadist to gauge their current popularity. On the one hand, they sold out the lawn in a week and on the other hand there are still house seats available at $69. I'm not sure I'd pay to see RUSH in their PRIME for $69, unless it was the first 5 rows...

I think with these older bands, they try and drive as much per ticket as they can because they never know when it's going to be their last show. I've taken my son to 3 RUSH shows and he likes them but, it's not the same for him because he didn't grow up with them. Going to see "Dad's music" or me going to see his music is more about the two of us spending time together.

It's wierd how Rush has gotten more popular the last few years, first with the appearance in "I Love You, Man", then on the Colbert Report, and then all the super hype leading up to this album.

Pissed for the same reason, and guess what, it wasn't cheaper. Best Buy online was selling it for $10 on release day, I could have swung by a store and gotten it that day for a better price than the $11.99 or so it ended up being through the Amazon preorder. I complained when it didn't arrive and got enough MP3 download credit from them to download the album to listen to it while waiting for the disc to show.

Eh, those kids don't know what good music is. Nothing put out today can be classified as "good" or maybe even "music".

Having listened through this whole disc a couple of times now I'm pretty happy with it. All new Rush has to grow on me first but this is good right from the start. Seven Cities of Gold is awesome.

Only complaint is that the mastering job is kind of fail again. These fucking record companies have trashed so much good music in the last 15 years with this shitty mastering work. Vapor Trails has awesome music on it but after they mangled the recordings it sounds like a vortex of shit.

I can't wait to hear good live recordings of Clockwork Angels songs; I bet they will sound better. Rush is one of the best-sounding live bands I've ever heard.

I'm convinced all of this over compression is part of the recording industry's business model to later re-master recordings from 2000 and beyond and force us to buy the same albums twice. There's a petition somewhere for Metallica to remaster "Death Magnetic" for instance...

Mastering is an art. I've tried it over and over again and never can get the knack of it. Doing it right now on 5 new songs and it's a nightmare.

If you want to hear what the actual master ecording sounds like, you'll need to get it on Super Audio CD and use a Super Audio CD player (preferably with separate outputs for 5:1).

Its amazing to hear this versus a highly compressed standard CD and when it's mastered in 5:1, it's the shit.

Another option is to get this album on vinyl, which usually sounds better. I still have my old records but I don't have a turntable set up. I've been thinking of getting one of those new USB turntables, but my dad still has an 80s era Technics turmtable that is one of the most awesome sounding things I've ever heard. The technology peaked out right before CDs killed vinyl.

Maybe they'll release a 5.1 package like they did with Snakes and Arrows, but I think that was also released on the initial release date. I guess they'll wait to sell that to the fans so they buy two. Between LPs, then CDs, then remaster CDs, then 5.1 mixes, one can buy many copies of a Rush collection if old enough.

Their first album came out when Grand Funk Railroad was popular. I give them credit for remaining relevant for nearly 40 years.

+1

back then Rush used to cover that Grand Funk Railroad song, except they changed the lyrics to "We're a Canadian Band", it was awesome

Back when they started with the 70s power trio sound before going more for the progressive rock sound...

I prefer this version, complete with John Rutsey on drums:

I love how the auditorium they are playing in remains seated. I guess they didn't realize what a monster band this was going to be soon.

That lineup never was going for a progressive sound. The next album was a new lineup, and they were going for a progressive sound. Rush from their first album to their second album was a completely different kind of band.
