Our America is the real America, it's those small-town, Main Street, Mom-and-Pop folks who are living an alternative lifestyle.

What's even more revolting is how they're "proud" of their lifestyle. Makes me sick.

You really need to spend some time in "small-town" America and share the experience before making such a dumb-assed conclusion. You make me sick.

+1

The one thing I can't stand about those small towns- the people who live there are always so phony. Always like "Wahhh, I think might be losing my job", or "Awww, we can't afford to pay our electric bill". A bunch of spoiled whiners.

Real America economy, subsidized by liberal urban trash. EG: NOVA and Richmond. Or California and Mississippi.

Seriously. I'm tired of the media and the schools exposing my kids to that kind of sleaze. You watch TV these days, and you never see people with good old fashioned jobs like Derivatives Analyst or Faculty Adjunct.

I'M A FIVE-STAR MAN!!

Small town are a great social Darwinist microcosms. Over the past 100 years, most small town have been losing the most determined and educated for cities; leaving behind those who do not have the drive or intellect to prosper beyond their current state. As the cycle continues, small towns' human capital become less and less competitive for jobs and resources. Add globalization to the mix and small towns are driven even further down. The only thing saving them is that retirees are moving back giving them enough of a tax base to stay alive, or that they are close enough to urban centers. This cycle explains a lot to their mentality.

Trust me, I've spent more than enough time around the small town where I grew up. Half these people are so far fuckin removed from reality they wouldn't know a good latte if it came up and bit'em in the ass.

So true.

I'm a big city boy 'cause I'm from the northern part of Virginia. We got strip malls, cookie cutter neighborhoods with indoor plumbing and pizza hut.

You want to know what happened to the Real America? Corporate greed and no I am not a OWS dickhead. Its just that the CEOs and high ups keep all the profits for themselves. In the 60s a person could own a home on a grocery store cashiers salary. Corporate recognized the rank and file were on the front line and responsible for the profits coming in. They shared the profit and not in an Obama way. They had some morals and thought it the right thing to do.

Obama will never succeed in taking profits and giving it to others because the corporations will never let go of their money. They will hide it in shelters or bank overseas. That is why the IRS tax code is ten telephone books thick.

I do not have an answer but I think it lies with the CEOs and high ups to do the right thing, the government cant make it happen.

Nah, I like the Darwinian theory better, at lest has logic going for it.

But are those small town people unhappy? As unhappy as you were before you left?

Sometimes not knowing what you're missing doesn't matter if you are content with where you are.

I was kinda making a joke.

I remember how excited everybody was up there when a Family Dollar store opened up. It was actually like a community event that I got dragged to. Local scout troops had a bake sale out front and a DJ from the local oldies station was there playing tunes for the 30 or 40 people milling about. It was sort of a big deal, people were happy that a business was bringing jobs to the community, not to mention the low low prices.

I thought it was completely absurd, and sorta funny when I heard someone got caught shoplifting during the grand opening (an adult, not some teenager). But I guess some people really enjoy this kind of thing.

America is pussified, plain and simple.

America is fat and prefers to eat and stare at flashing electronic screens for stimulation.

America is overmedicated.

America is overindulgent.

Americans live to watch and consume instead of participate and create.

Get outside this weekend you fucking losers. Get some goddmmed sunshine already.

When a Chipotle opened up in my home town near the Interstate
clover leaf the whole town came out for the grand opening parade.
They had the high school marching band, half the fire trucks in
the county, and most of the off duty cops. Horses too. Mayor and
town council were there along with the school board. They were
riding in horse drawn carriages and Caddy convertibles. When
the parade was over there were speeches about what a great day
this was in the towns history. This was the biggest thing that
had happened there since the Mayor's wife got drunk and rode a
Harley the wrong way down Main St. This might sound hokey to some
but I'd give my left nut to be able to live there again.
