I don't know how I feel about this remake...i know it will be visually appealing at least. Will it be any good?

Has there ever been a good Great Gatsby movie? As for Luhrman, at least from the trailer it looks like he has restrained himself from having people burst out into song or recite 500 year old sonnets as dialogue. I doubt it will be a big money maker, but it might get some Oscar buzz.

What I want to know is who got it in their head that Carey Mulligan should be the "next big thing"?

I do not find her attractive at all and her acting skills are just OK. I thought Daisy was supposed to be attractive?

Ironically, she sports the same unattractive pixie haircut Mia Farrow had at the same point she played Daisy in her career.
