More convicted felons allowed to enlist in Army, Marines

WASHINGTON - Under pressure to meet combat needs, the Army and Marine Corps brought in significantly more recruits with felony convictions last year than in 2006, including some with manslaughter and sex crime convictions.

Hell yeah! Let's ship all the felons over to Iraq and let them march into the worst area's. 8 years of taking bullets and their record is cleared.

I'm sure the streets of Bahgdad will be much safer now that we've sent them our nation's date-rapists.

Yeah bullshit, Marines wont even take anyone with a GED. When I came back from my basic I did hometown recruitment, I tried to refer one kid that had a ged and they wouldnt allow. At least 15 college credits with ged and no felonies. Not sure where you got the info

I was just about to post this story, my old man is in the pen and I brought up this very idea to him a couple years ago and he said "Fuck yeah I'd go shoot some towel heads".

FYI Native-

The Marines -- which recruits fewer new service members each year than the Army -- also reported a rise in waivers for felonies, with 350 granted in 2007, compared with 208 in 2006.

hm, arent you by law prohibited to carry a weapon if you are a felon???
I am sure the military treats those as a disposible infantry men as there is no
way one would ever get any sort of clearance with a felony charge

In this country yes, but in Iraq who knows. Just ask Blackwater about applicable laws.

You need a clearance to be a grunt??

I guess being a bullet mattress doesnt take much skill. Thats a shame how the government openly treat these people as disposable bodies.

Thats idiotic. Then explain this to me, why is it the guy that I was trying to recruit a while back ago who had a ged and a clean record could not enlist without 15 college creds??? Not to mention the guy scored abopve average on the asvab test. The kid was very smart, knew 3 languages, had a stable civilian job but just so happens that he received a ged during his senior year when his parents and him had to travel outside the country and did not come back a year later, leaving him with no choise but to accept a ged that he scored 100% on. Perfectly normal bright guy and they wouldnt let him in but yet they allow and I quote " sex crimes and manslaughter" fuckups to enlist and fuck up our military. What possible good can ex felons bring to the table besides being disposable bodies???????

I talked to an army recruiter a month ago about joining the reserves. I want to go into intel, speak 4 languages, have a bachelors and a PMP. I’m 35 though and he laughed when I told him my age. This right after he admitted the military is “seriously hurting” for recruits.

Expect more waivers and a raising of the maximum age to enlist. Navy and Air Force raised there’s to 40. Only a matter of time till the marines and army are compelled to do the same.

35 is the maximum age. Why'd you wait until then?

I had a 34 year old in my bay at boot. He had been a firefighter before signing up. If you were a computer desk jockey, then yeah, the Army ain't gonna take you. If you had been a cop or fire fighter they would have.

Life is full of choices. You chose unwisely to try and join the Army at the very last minute before the cut-off.

People don’t simply “choose” when they have an interest in x,y or z. I simply felt stuck in a rut, wanted to serve my country and wanted to challenge myself. The alphabet agencies have a real hard on for ex military and although I was more than qualified for the jobs I had applied for within the IC, I couldn’t get ahead of the vets in the pecking order. It’s ultimately their loss.
