Most fun used car under $20,000
Posted by: Manual McShift-stick ()

I'm looking for a second car. Since I live in NOVA, the Commonwealth of course sent me a notice that in order to keep my residency status, I have to buy another vehicle. I'd be the only driver of this second car. My only requirement is that it's not Asian and it's got a 3rd pedal.

I found a 2004 Corvette with 72,000 miles on it for $19,900. What are your thoughts on this and other vehicles that meet the criteria?

Dont get a vet, it just screams mid life crisis. Why are you excluding Asian cars? I had a 05 infiniti q45 then 07 g35 and just traded in for a g37s awd. All were excellent machines. Neither one of them left me stranded and are a lot of fun to drive

Asians are reverse engineers not innovators...

Cadallac CTS-V 04-08, has 400 horsepower, stylish looks and handles well. The newer redesign is redonkulous @ 550 horses and even beefier tougher styling though the coupe looks a bit long in the tooth.

My brother owned a 06 CTS-V, recently sold it. I had the pleasure of driving that car and it friggin' gets up and goes no joke. 6 litre engine, tons of torque. It was also a pretty nice car cosmetically. But now he has two kids and got a minivan. I remember seeing the redesign in 08' or 09' can't remember but at the auto show and just wow. That car is off the charts. Lucky for you I think my bro sold his a year or so ago with like 50k miles for like 22k or something if I remember correctly.

The insurance premiums and fuel costs would negate any sense that you got a bargain buying that CTS-V used.

A used CTS-V is evidently hard to find. A search of Cadillac.com AND edmunds.com returned zero CTS-V's in inventory. And a search of EBay showed seven with a 3rd pedal. Two of which were NOT CTS-V's. The cheapest one is a 2005 for $15K with...gulp...139 THOUSAND miles on it!

The only one I'd consider is a 2007 with 55K miles on it but, it's $27K. It's a fine car no doubt, but more than I want to spend. But, I'll keep an eye out just in case something with the right mileage and price pops up. Hopefully, it won't be on the West Coast...

No such thing as an '08 CTS-V.

Just sayin.

Use your Virginia address in filling out a W-4 or to file a 760ES

I don't doubt that they are rare. My bro had to fly like a 1000 miles to pick up his car and drive it back. But you could definitely get one under 20k with relatively low mileage if you look. I guess you could also look at the XLR which I think has the same engine and is a coupe and much lighter though that will be even more expensive.

I personally really love my old SUV beater. I can treat it like absolute shit and not have to worry about it. And it carries tons of shit and can be used in snow and mud!

And for the people who will go "See! Yucky really IS a toothless redneck! He drives an old SUV! Hurrrr!1"

I have more than one car you fucking idiot.

Swallow your pride and go get a WRX. Put $2k and you will keep up with if not out run vettes and CTS-vs all day. not to mention you can drive like a maniac in the rain and snow and have no fear of losing control. You sound like an old fart like my dad, who hated "rice mobiles" until he actually drove one, and saw a car with 300hp also get 30mpg.......

Awwww...what's wrong, you mad bro? Is someone into something and you're not?

This is exactly my point...any car you have to "put two grand" into, isn't really a car. If the Impreza is so great, what does it need more after you take if off the lot? I don't HATE "rice mobiles"...I simply prefer my vehicles sourced from any place but Asia due to a lack of innovation...

You stand over there and enjoy your Subaru and I'll stand over here and enjoy what I like...Goddamn...

Could not agree more, i prefer driving around my beater more than anything else because of sense of freedom from not giving a crap over what happens to it.

turbocharged cobalt ss. fun and fast car. I like it when people think their 5.0L mustang is fast and then put them to shame...especially since they are forking over like 30 grand and you can beat them in a 2 liter stock turbo for less than 18k. both sedan or coupe.

AHHH the slowbalt, reason why i dont like this car is because its a turbo on a domestic...and that big ass tail. its chevys "tuner" car...no chevy-american muscle jap-tuner its as simple as that. and its 190-200 hp tops, c'mon a maxima sedan can dust it

A vette is an ok ride but if/when they break, it gets expensive quick. I had a 2001 that needed a rear transaxle seal replaced......part- $12.00 labor- $1800.00
