In all fairness, Mike's show is now rated 16th in Wichita (Wichita is the 99th market and shouldn't be confused with Kansas City). Apparently his station has eased ahead in its bloody battle with the two "Regional Mexican" format stations it has been going up against.

So how many affiliates does MOM have left? Six? Seven maybe? I was listening to a DnM show from January 2000 recently and they mentioned that they had 55 affiliates. I guess that shows just how groundbreaking MOM has become.

I guess ratings don't count as part of "everything" because they sure as shit haven't been picking up.

What parts have been hysterical? The "Give us some ingredients, and well guess the recipe" game, his Jack Diamond-esque exploitation of Robb's son, or BA's continuing downward spiral into the land of the pathetic?

Are you fucking kidding me? On a long ago episode of D&M, Don talked about their sucky New York ratings. He said that if you have to start making excuses, and picking and choosing which demo's you're doing well in, then you're a loser. He was right. TMOS (and WJFK) is a stinker. Plain and simple.

Like revenue earned, etc, etc. Oh wait. All those stats have gone down for WJFK too!
So don't think the show is going

You can think it all you want, it won't make a difference to CBS's bottom line. Ratings and revenue do. Those are two thinks TMOS can NOT brag about.

A lot of talent? You mean TV trivia boy Robb? Socialist Buzz? Or resident nutjob Mary Todd McBride?

Nah, he's still an untalented, jive, milquetoasty piece of shit.

Again, do you mean the "guess the recipe" game? Christ, the breakfast flakes in my hometown wouldn't even touch that steaming pile of radio horse crap!

By the way, I've gone back to think about something. Mike DOES surround himself with talent. However, he doesn't know how to utilize the talent to make an interesting show. Don knew how. Her knew he could make Robb funny by making him look like a nazi and a wife beater. It was funny because the truth of it is the REAL Robb is nothing like that. The real Robb is like the neutered version currently braying into the mic on TMOS. The real Robb may be a great guy, but he's a shitty radio personality.

Same with Buzz. Don knew that Buzz was boring. He knew that Buzz was best used at the end of the show for news (with a health does of comedy input from D&M). Other than that, he'd have his occasional witty aside, porn review, or "sexy call." We're getting more Buzz thanks to Mike, and it ups the tune out factor significantly.

Bottom line. Don's a radio God. That's why he's retired at 50, living at the beach with a pile of cash in the bank, and still has millions of loyal fans. Mike's a radio clod. That's why he's in 22nd place.

Latest on Donni G's Podcast. Sounds like there has been a set back. If were talking October of 2010 may be Don will tell CBS to Fxxk OFF Ad finum..
PODCAST DONE BEFORE IT STARTED
I am totally wrecked right now. After two months of talking, meeting, and more talking, it turns out there will be NO podcasting for me via CBSradio.

Here's why: Content, and ON THE AIR restrictions.

After we shook hands last week and I started Twittering about it, I opened a nice surprise email bundle from CBS. It contained a copy of these documents/pamphlets.

'CBS RADIO INDECENCY POLICY

and

'CBS RADIO: WORDS THAT HURT AND HARM'

Only then did I realize that CBS was going to hold an OFF the AIR podcast to the same 'standards' as if it WERE being broadcast over the FCC airwaves.

The execs at CBS did tell me they didn't do their due diligence correctly. It was only AFTER we had an agreement they 'discovered' the CBS corporate policy and let me know.

Don't get me wrong. I long to broadcast. When I walked away from my job and my paycheck a year ago, it was to get my shit together. Job done. I'm ready and eager to go back to work. However, CBSradio controls my rights until October 2010.

After deciding there was no current slot for me on their stations, we started the podcast dance. I'm quite sure that a podcast that would be edited for content and language would not exactly be what you'd want to hear. Or I'd want to do. A watered down show would be embarrassing.

It would be one thing to be held to these ridiculous standards IF I were going back to broadcast radio. But to do a podcast? No way.

I promise you IF they had mentioned this AT ALL in ANY of our conversations, I would have said no thanks. As a matter of fact, we discussed the creative luxuries podcasting provides.

I have discovered in the last year how much broadcasting means to me, and how much the people who have listened to me over the years mean to me as well.

The LAST thing I would do knowingly would be to jerk your chain about a return. The second to last thing I'd do is a half assed subjectively edited long form podcast.

So unless some other P.O.S. station in OceanCity/Salisbury comes knockin, I'm CBS's bitch until October 2010.

I am sorry for ever having publicly brought this up. I have standards, and this project just fell way below them.

Thanks for all your continued support. I'll still Twitter and blog. But today I am bummed out of my mind. I have been blessed to have been rewarded for my hard work over the years, and at this point have a desire to return that is fueled simply by my passion and love for broadcasting. And interacting with people.

Translation: I don't need the bucks (wouldn't turn down my old salary, tho). I just have loved radio for 35+ years. It's my career and my hobby. I'll get back in when the current contract situation is up. I would do almost anything to get back in.

Just not like this.

I really hope you understand and can accept my apology.

Now we're off to find a bar open at 9am!

d.

Who is up to seeing what the power of the web can do? Let’s see if we can get Don his uncensored podcast. Let’s make a list of advertisers on the MOM and start calling and emailing and asking why they are advertising on a show that is basically in last place. As soon as CBS takes the shackles off of Don, we stop calling and emailing the advertisers.

Doing so would force you to acknowledge that you heard the company's commercial while listening to MOM, thus reinforcing the reasoning behind the placement of the ad... to get people to hear it.

It makes perfect sense because shutting Don out is an idiotic move. Hughes/CK=idiots.

I'll bet fat 'ol MOM had his part in c-blocking Don as well.

Anyone who thinks MOM is a big old cuddly bear who's trying hard to entertain DC must be smoking crack.

MOM is a vindictive, mean-spirited ass hole with an attitude and drinking problem.

Just try playing golf in front or behind this POS some time. It's lots of fun. Not.

Don Geronimo said...
CBS management decided there was no place for me in their Washington DC cluster of stations. Again, it's their decision, not mine. I am the one who contacted them about a return. They have zero interest in such a deal, it appears. So be it, See them in 2010.

Look there!! Approximately $5.00 a share. Their 0 interest noted by Don is close to being matched by CBS's share price. Genius moves like they made with Don won't make this POS a buy anytime soon

Don needs to have a couple of drinks today and get over the shock and then he needs to realize that he has worked censored since he was 13 and has kicked radio ass. This BS from CBS should get him fired up. He needs to use this year as his guinea pig year. Work out all the kinks and problems now, then when October 2010 arrives, switch it over to the uncensored Don Geronimo show and go full throttle. Start small then work your way up. You can do it Don, it’s yours for the taking. Take a couple days off, then get back out there and start putting your podcast together. Everyone roots for the comeback kid.

There should be - MOM probably started drinking in celebration following Don's post about the podcast demise at about 10am.

This is all fucking amazing - JFK got the 17th ranked Junkies in the am, who-knows-what-rated BO&D mid-day, and 21/22-ranked MOM in pm drive time - and there's no place for Donnie G?

No disrepect intended to BO&D, they are probably the best of a sad bunch.

I'd move Don to the am drive time, keep BO&D in place, move the Junkies to afternoon drive.

And MOM? I'd hand him a broom for the remainder of his contract and tell him to keep Don's studio spic and span!

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!

Listeners Call Cops After Hearing JFK Stunt - 4/22 - The police showed up at CBS Radio guy talker WJFK's Fairfax studios on Wednesday afternoon, after listeners complained that an 8-year-old boy was being tatooed against his will on-air on Mike O'Meara's show. Just a taped "comedy" bit, folks. Not real. All actors. Will the FCC find it amuzing? Stay tuned.....

DCRTV has an interesting item in the mailbag about yesterday's show. Basically (and rightly) they are saying the cops being called on the "Tats for Tots" should be generating press. Why the fuck hasn't Beth Ann called The Reliable Source at the Washington Post? Those hacks phone it in everyday. They would love something like this.

I guess the laziness continues. Michael Hughes is probably freaked out that the cops were called and wants to keep this "hush, hush." If so, he's a complete fucking idiot.

I'd like to know if one of those 50 listeners actually called the cops and exactly who it was. I can't help thinking that it was actually someone from WJFK that called the cops to create publicity for the show.

I give them credit for trying to do something to allow the Mike O'Meara show to crack the Top 20.

It was even an April fools joke. Complete rip-off of another DJ.

Three ratings stunts since his return from vacation: The Sick Child Show, BA's Head Shaving and now this. The bosses must have him on a short leash and have instructed him to get the ratings up by any means necessary.

I agree. The problem is people hear about this, tune in, and hear the same boring shit they always have. Mike doesn't have the talent or ability to keep this kind of thing going day-to-day. It's a once-a-week stunt thing.

The fact that The Junkies have somehow managed to get the ratings up on their shit-fest of a show only amplifies how inadequate Mike is...

Yep,

same event (April Fools Day),
same concept (child tatoo, taking angry phone calls)
and even the same name (Tats for Tots).

I think B.A. probably just googled "Wacky Radio Stunts" and went to Mike with the idea. Even if they didn't steal it (yeah right), why didn't they google "Tats for Tots Radio" and they would have seen that other D.J.s did it for an April Fools joke and then they could have come up with something else.

I was going to give Mike props for coming up with something, but you get no credit from me for stealing from other shows.

That sucks, I thought Mike did something good :-(

She did Google it. They just stole the idea.

That's pathetic! The worst part is, they stole it from no-name DJs in BFE markets. Lord, how sad.

Listen to DMS since that late-80s, turned more then a few friends on to it, Was always more of a "Mike" guy during that time, too.

Had high hopes for MOMS, but it just isn't happening. Bottom line: The old show was fun. Weekend recaps, Freida calls, Mike's lost weekends, E to E, toe-tapping touch tones, secret sound, Mike as Floyd the Barber...Cousin Luigi...Uncle Cartoon, strip trivia, Elvis Death Day Show, Good Afternoon Mr and Mrs___ and all the ships at sea, Friday Jeopardy...Don't Screw with El Q, Lea Remini, News and Comment, broadcasting way past 4pm in the DC area until they got bored...Rob in the background, Failing in NY. All of it was fun.

Now? Basically, everyone is out of place, Mike, Rob, Buzz have all been bumped up to a spot that does not fit them. Mike is a good #2, but no #1, and so on. BA is just weird. The show has no edge anymore and it just kinda bumps along with no direction...I'm not interested in hearing political commentators, Navy Seals interviewed about piracy, hockey players, a lady who was stalked for years and wrote a book, some guest about the presidents new limo...unless the guest is being goofed on, I don't really care. And they don't goof anymore.

This show? Mix in 2-3 dull games per show, a few interviews, some appearance promotions, Rob's boring vault thing, a few Buzz casts, maybe a little personal banter and chat and you've got a show. Its like that everyday. I used to listen to laugh. If I want to learn something I'll tune into NPR. If I want sports I'll go to ESPN. This show just isn't funny anymore and its too bad.

I know that the Portland, OR affiliate just dropped the show.

The only part of the MOM show I consistently don't like is when they let Katie speak. NOT looking forward to her being on next Friday!!!!

She has No on-air presence, and is not hot enough for the attention she gets in the studio.

She's not ugly, just not hot enough to have the 'tude that she has

You nailed it BackintheUSSR. I tried for almost a year to figure out how the show was funny. I tried hard, even to the point of trying to pretend it was funny at times. In the last 2 months, getting confirmation from comments like yours and others on this thread , I became 100% convinced I was wasting my time considering the MOM show to be anything close to resembling entertainment.

We may be in for a dry spell here but it sounds like Donni G is TRYING HIS DAMNDESSED To get something rolling by the fall of 2010.

In the meantime there's a "Good time to be had by all" right here on the "Hate Mike O'Meara Show" Thank You and Good Night All.........Oh here's Sammy Davis Jr.

CLEARING UP THE PODCAST
I have read quite a few very nice Twitter notes about exactly why I'm not doing a podcast with CBS, and why I didn't cave to their rules&regs.

It's simple, like I told them. It's more than the big seven dirties. I told them repeatedly there was no problem avoiding s***,f***, etc. I did that for years on the air.

BUT. When I'm the one trying to return, making a "deal" with no upside (finances? a proposed 50/50 split of any profits)...and just an offer from them to, "Try it for 90 days and we'll see where we are" was a bit too vague for me. Especially with the restrictions that wanted to add on. But I digress. This content issue wasn't about Carlin's Seven.

My problem was...wait for it...subjective content that is classified as "edgy" or "words that can hurt". A topic as mundane as going to the doctor would be subject to a third party's understanding of the very grey FCC rules (that DO NOT APPLY to internet content).

I would record a show, in theory, and send it to CBS. There, they'd examine and listen to it, cut out whatever they thought was verbotten, and run the rest slapped together.

I'd be relying on a toady to decide what's appropriate. That's worse than doing a live show, and having someone hitting a delay button repeatedly.

I know some of you are upset I didn't just go through with it. That's MY fault for talking about it before it started.

You can think whatever you like of me and this failed venture, it's your God given right. I think you'd be unhappy with the end product, and I'd be embarrassed by it.

I'd be glad to discuss any other specifics, but this seems to be the number one topic, 24 hours later.

Hope this helps you understand, and if you're still mad, PissOff! :)

Regardless of my issues with other who post on here or our disagreements about whether or not the MOM show is good or not, I don't understand (or really even buy) the Don podcasting bit. My only frame of reference would be Carolla out in LA. My understanding of his situation is that he was fired by CBS Radio, and unable to do radio due to a non-compete until his contract runs out at the end of this calendar year. But he started doing his own podcast, does an hour a day roughly with a guest. No restrictions on content, no issues with topics or anyone checking in on him. When the year is up and he is no longer being paid by CBS Radio, he might do something else, he might get a sponsor (and therefore cede overall control of the podcast), he might say eff it and just keep it rolling. Podcast is very successful, like the number one comedy podcast on ITunes. I download every day, listen when I like the guests - Sports Guy Bill Simmons, Dave Dameshek, Mike Birbiglia were some excellent ones, btw. But why would Don need CBS Radio at all, I guess would be my big question. Why not open up his own shop and do a podcast, using Twitter to get his fans there? I would assume he doesn't have Carolla money to get it up and going, but it would seem to me if he wanted to do it, it could be done. Could he have realized he bit off more then he was willing to try and chew? Something about the situation doesn't seem to really add up. And I don't buy the predictable conspiracy theories that Hughes or MOM or anyone 1.cares enough and 2.has enough actual clout to torpedo his podcast. I think it's a shame, because I was looking forward to Don's podcasts - the more good stuff there is to listen to, the better.

He has an ironclad non-compete contract with CBS, meaning he can't compete with CBS in any market until 2010. That includes podcasts

Nope, pretty sure it's like Don's blog says. He doesn't want a bunch of dicks editing his podcast to comply with FCC regulations(CBS company policy). He wants to do a show that he can be proud of. So he will wait till 2010, then do whatever he wants. mcsmack had a great post about the whole thing fully equipped with a link to Don's blog. Give it a read.

I really don't get what the point if this thread is. It's been a year of you guys posting your hatred of the Mike O'Meara show...yet you all seem to be listening since you know all the current information. If you hate the show so much, then why do you feel this need to constantly post against them? Seems very immature. I'm not defending the show here cause if it's not your thing then that's fine, but why does this message board like to listen to a shoe the hate and compulsively write about it? Don't get me wrong, though, it's actually comical to see some of the thing you guys say. For instance, when you guys decide to talk about how fat Mike is and how his wife must be a gold-digger just because you have collectively decided to take your hate of his radio show to a personal level. How inteligwnt. Grow up, guys.

Now you can start trying to insult me too if you'd like, but you'd only be proving your immaturity.

Shhh...Schuyler, don't reveal the dirty little secret. You sound far too reasonable and rational to be posting on here, so you'll not only be attacked you'll be accused of being a member of the show or the JFK Staff. Don't let the secret out that this forum is basically a three-person circle-jerk of hate against the show between TonLocian, McSmack and Angie. They post with a variety of names, they all listen every day, and they magically create cancellation dates that never seem to be true. Just listen to the show, or don't, as you see fit. Don't waste your breath being sensible, Schuyler, you're too good for them, and for the forum as whole.

You are so wrong about how many people post here. And this thread is a way to vent frustration about O'Meara and is lack of work ethics, creativity, and the leftist slant of the show with Burbank.

Don is sorely missed and I for one will continue from time to time comment on the show. I have sent the show many e-mails about my dissatisfaction hoping that somehow O'Meara would work hard to come up with a better show.

Mike is a complete fraud who rode Don's coattails for 20+ years. What really pisses him off is that he knows everyone else now knows this.

What are you talking about honey? This is Angie and I have only been reading this forum for several weeks now. You don't know what you're talking about. I happen to know Mike and a friend of mine recently showed me this website. I have stopped listening to his show and am reading this forum instead. The majority of readers are like me - excited to watch Mike's professional demise.

WashingTone Locian is right - he's lost his appeal since Don left and he's having problems accepting this. It's like driving slow to view a fatal accident - you just can't help checking it out.

First, Carla isn't Mike's wife. Second, Carla can't be classified as a "gold digger" because between Mike's two ex-wives, two kids, pay cuts, failed bar and house that is assessed at $300K less than he paid for it five years ago, that "gold mine" was tapped dry a long, long time ago.

Mike has no money. Carla just uses his place as a free place to sleep in between seeking out the "Swarthy Lopezes" of Georgetown South to knock boots with. At least, that's what I heard from Gravis.

LOL - It's funny because it's true. The dumbass paid way too much money just to live close to his bar and catch rides home from other folks after he drank himself silly every night.

What a d*ck, he sets up a segment called "phone-a-rama" and then hangs up on almost everybody that calls. Claiming he doesnt want any "schtick" (spelling?). Somehow he thinks abandoning those that actually listen to him and call in, will move him up in the ratings. Oh yeah and he decided to hang up on a man with a stuttering problem because "(he) just couldnt take it anymore", the guy was on the phone for 10 seconds. Used to be a fan but all I can say is Douchebag, thats right capital D.

Of course I agree whatnarse,
It seems every time anyone somewhat amusing happens along, like the stuttering guy, Mike suddenly becomes neurotic, exhibits irrational behavior like he's afraid this guy maybe more entertaining to listen to than him. Quickly the dissonance on Mikes part builds to the point the threatening party gets cut off.

The listener is left wondering whether the guy might have actually been funny. But good old, fat, drunk and stupid, fast tracked on the road to radio oblivion MOM short circuits all that post haste.

The only "three man circle jerk" here are the three WJFK employees who come on here to post pro-O'Meara messages. There are at least dozens and maybe even more than 100 different people who have been on this thread over the past year to articulate their displeasure with Mike's show. They represent the tens of thousands of listeners who have fled from the O'Meara show over the past year.

Dons twitter gets more fans than the MOM show.

Is there any chance on 10/1/2010 that Don would take Mike's dumb ass back? I don't think there is anyway that Rob or Mike has a chance with Don again. Buzz maybe but back in his newsman role.
After a year plus of this MOM nonsense I am now convinced Don can prop up any show.

Exorcism? Really?? And it's not even Halloween.

What's next? UFOs?

Oh yeah its "Give me your local demon story wednesday" on the MOM show. Don would be spoofing everyone of these moron calls. Mike just pretends to be interested and gives MOM Tshirts.

Come on Mike, I am still rooting for you but it just isn't working out. Why do you need Robb and Buzz to constantly be on air with you like it is a 3 man "show"? Don used to be able to captain the ship by himself with little if any input from those clowns. It just seems like you start floundering around for something to fill the time and end up pulling in everyone on the floor to help you out. "Oh man, I don't know where to go with this... I better get Joe and Katie and BA in here along with Robb, Buzz and me so we can all talk over each other at once until I think of a new direction to take..."

This is starting to feel like sitting in the pokey and trying to find anything to do in order to claw the endless seconds by.

Do an hour long, in studio interview with Grease where you let him run rampant like he was promoting a night at the Improv and watch your ratings improve. Of course, he would have your job by the end of the week.

Gee, I'm disappointed I didn't get included in the group of three regular posters to this site! Well, if I did, it would be four regular posters.

I've got two notes for the lurking JFK employees on this board:

1. Tell fat, drunk MOM to listen to former WJFK stable-mates 'Ron and Fez' on XM 202, noon to three weekdays. He might be able to steal enough clever material to sustain his lame-assed show for a day or two. MOM should do the task of stealing from 'Ron and Fez' and **not** delegate the task to Ms. BA McBride. That sorry cow doesn't have the ability to distinguish good radio from the $3/sq. foot carpet she was flogging in NC.

2. When MOM has enough Ron and Fez material, have him tune in to Jason Ellis on XM 52 at 3pm Eastern. Actually the Junkies need to listen to Jason as well to pick up some fresh material. Ellis **IS** the definition of the male 25-54 radio demo in content, style and attitude.

MOM/Junks = yesterday's news. BO&D, only hope.

LISTEN ALL YOU F"RRRRRRRSSSS who come on this site and mock Mike. I have been taking in his Jameson and tounging his whores for the last 45 years. He has talent and his career is going to make a huge comeback. Sure I am going to spend a considerable amount of time wrapped around Don's penis and anus in the very near future but come back he will.

As long as we are on the subject of stealing material.

The Junkies are throwing around so much of their white, flabby, middle-aged suburban Ebonics that I can't even figure out what the fuck they are saying anymore.

That's "Rick!"

The Junkies, like MOM, are consumate "company men", neither should ever be mistaken for creative broadcasters.

MOM and the Junks covet paychecks over creativity.

So what do you get? Lazy-assed, zero-prep, zero-effort, phone-in radio that doesn't give a fuck about entertaining anyone.

I can see what Michael Hughes/Chris Kinard's 'creative direction' for MOM and the Junks is: Just babble for eight minutes boys - we don't care about what -'til we can start our 12-minute commercial sets and you can kick up your heels!

Hughes/Kinard radio = poo.

MOM/Junks = 'talent' wallowing in Hughes/Kinard poo! (And liking it!!)

Wow!! I have gone almost 1 week without listening to MOM. I seem to be doing pretty well so far. Doesn't sound like I've missed much. I might tune in tomorrow to see where the fat bastard may be doing his pointless promo appearance this weekend or what crazy hyjinx he has planned next for his show.nite all

Did you know Mike has a motorcycle?

mechanics_suspension_fat_motorcycle.jpg

I'm surprised he hasn't brought it up as "a ratings booster."

I will say that Mike does seem to be making a bit more of an effort since his near firing last month. But you can't polish a turd and you can't make a fat, lazy asshole a non-fat, non-lazy asshole. Mike will be back to his "not trying ways" soon enough.
