Maybe i missed it.. But I've wondered for some time why Robb didnt get the Perkins show gig. I thought he was tight with Tony, with the Beatles thing. And, as i recall, he was quite good with Tony and Gary on one of their first shows. He certainly seemed eager for it. Personally, i think he seemed to be at the top of his game with them. [I think Robb is better without having to grovel (constantly) to the ever-needy and always-moody Mike.]

Is there a backstory to RoFo getting it over Robb?

Robb WOULD HAVE been producer, but didn't want the work.

That wouldn't leave enough time in the day to include jacking off to his jukebox.

A classic Dick Mike story today. Invited to the neighbor's for dinner. The same ones who had just called to say they'd given up sweets for Lent and offered them to Mike and Carla. I assume Mike doesn't care for the guy, as guess what Mike brought to dinner?

A cake.

The ungrateful bastard told Mike in the course of the evening he'd listened to a couple of TMOS episodes, and "it wasn't for me."

And when naturally they declined to partake in the cake, Mike, who had a piece there, took it home with him, screaming at Carla not to give it to the babysitter. He had another huge piece, dumping it into a bowl with milk, and ate it in bed.

Oh, and I buried the lede. Mike mentioned in passing that he had a "1 or 2" beers (really, if you say that, it's at least 2; you don't have just one and say, 1 or 2) and a "couple glasses of wine" at the neighbors. I guess the recent no-booze pledge is no more or only applies to that consumed in-house.

Finally, for you bonus show laggards, he and Carla are also house-shopping, so step it up.

Minute 37 Mike tells Jarla that "We're a target in this neighborhood."

I wonder if that's connected with his habit of throwing bags of dogshit in his neighbor's yards. Nahhh, couldn't be.

My count is at least 3 beers (which is really not that much but the at least is how they get ya) and close to a bottle of wine, conservatively.

The alcoholic math is whatever the drunkard says, double it. At least.

^ I checked out the download today, because of the above post. The best part of Mike's rant about how baffled and offended he was that his neighbor "got drunk and insulted the guest" (i.e., didn't like the show)? Him emphatically insisting to Carla afterward that "WE ARE A TARGET IN THIS NEIGHBORHOOD."

Thing is, I don't disbelieve they're made themselves a target in that neighborhood. I mean, mission accomplished, Mike, when you're blatantly passive aggressive things like bringing a cake over to the neighbors' place when they've given up desserts for Lent.

(This was Mike's hypothesis, btw: that the neighbor stated his dislike of Mike's show "in retaliation" for Mike bringing over the cake.)

On the upside, we did get a grumbled admission from Mike in the middle of that story: "I hate my life." (You hide it so well, Mike.)

I was stunned when he said "I thought it was funny." That's his sense of humor? No wonder he has such trouble with waitstaff, ticket takers, and doctors, and well, everyone.

Maybe he just can't bear to be far from cake for a few hours. That bit about how he got into bed with his cake in a bowl and ate it like cereal was nuts.

Agreed. Think about it, he went to someone's house for dinner and brought cake for himself (and no one else) to eat, then drove home with it to eat some more. Then claimed that he wasn't a big cake guy. Sheesh.

But what about when Rob chimed in to say that Mike should have poured half-and-half on the cake instead of milk, because it contains cream, thus is closer to whipped cream, and "you'd put whipped cream on cake, wouldn't you?" Is it any wonder Rob weighs as much as a large pony? HE PUTS WHIPPED CREAM ON CAKE! FFS.

The thing that made me "laugh" about the whole Dinner Party/cake kerfuffle was that I can guarantee I know what happened with the other guy.

He was being a nice guy.

He met this new guy Mike who he ostensibly will be friends with, finds out Mike has a podcast and decides to listen...

But then he doesn't like it, so he is left with two options:

1. Fake that you like it, but run the risk of having to lie every time you meet Mike and say you listen when you don't...but then he may ask for details, and you are screwed.

2. Be honest and say you don't like it, but try to soften the blow by saying it's not your thing.

So he did option 2. And then, either Mike followed up with "What didn't you like?" so he elaborated about the commercials, etc. OR he felt he needed to give a reason, as opposed to just leaving it, and then elaborated.

Ultimately, this guy was trying to be a good person. I guarantee there was absolutely no revenge for the cake or targeting...

But I guarantee it was more awkward than Mike is letting on...even if he didn't think it was.

I think this is a perfect example of a new listener experience. Unless you listened to the D&M show and have some historical reference as to their friends. old bits, and their lives, the show is completely unfunny. As my wife observed after her first listen a few weeks ago, "what a bunch of mundane bullshit". In addition, all the Klubbers and those of us who have this historical reference are aging. I can't imagine any new generation of fan emerging. His benefactors like Dirk Vastric, who basically pays to have his name mentioned once a month have to be pushing 70. BTW what happened to Kappy, don't hear her name much these days. Plus, nice work Blobb, always cracks me up!

Remember the time a few years ago when they did the "new listener initiative," wherein every listener had "homework to get something like three people to listen to the show for the first time?

I remember thinking at the time, I'd be embarrassed to let anyone I know listen to this show. For every that might be cute or funny to the first time listener-- Robb fucking with telemarketers, the crew ragging on an intern or two, whatever (yeah, I had to go back a ways to come up with multiple examples of things I think a new listener would actually find funny)-- there are three that are either dumb, boring, or abrasive (too many to list).

Dinner With Mike is a good example of a bit I wouldn't want my friends or family listening to. Because the reaction of normal humans when they hear a story like that is, to quote our fellow Thread poster, "What a useless jerk this Mike guy is."

I was listening to the Hollywood Babylon podcast the other day, and found myself wondering, "So, this show is basically just two dorky guys talking about movies. What makes this so different from three dorky guys sitting around and talking about life on TMOS?" The answer is that Kevin Smith and Ralph Garmin are, well, basically likable. Even though they've both had their share of critical failures in Hollywood, and Lord knows Kevin Smith is not everyone's cup of tea, there's no sense of bitterness or anger seeping through their bits. TMOS feels, from minute one, just...tense. As if this was not Plan A for any of these guys...and they're pissed about it.

Two sad possibilities:

1. She recognizes what a huge loser her husband is, but stays with him.
2. She doesn't realize that he's the world's biggest child.

Traded in the 7th month old Kia Soul(which had depreciated about $7,000) for a Kia Sorento...because it took 7 months for Cary to figure out a 6 foot, 300 pound woman can't fit in a Kia Soul...This family NEEDS a Tahoe

All through grade school and middle school, Fat Rob would boast about his kids' grades and awards. He'd giggle about going to the school awards ceremonies and shouting and applauding to embarrass them. Both of them apparently are/were straight-A, Honor Roll students.

Yesterday he basically threw his son under the bus, with veiled references to the kid's academic skills or lack thereof. But he was beaming with pride that his daughter APPLIED, not got accepted into, but simply APPLIED to a vocational HS for graphic arts. Wow, she'll even learn how to work the metal plates for printing t-shirts!

She's a sophomore. If she and her parents were serious about college, she would be planning to load up the AP courses the next two years (and be taking one or two THIS year), and not learning how to put a logo on a coffee cup. If that's what she wants to do in life, fine, god bless. But please Rob, don't spin it like it's this unique academic opportunity. She'll be going to Vo-Tech, which focuses on job training for kids who are not so interested in going to college.

PS -- When LFF asked Rob a couple of times what other careers are taught at this special school, I like how he replied "wiring."

What do you do for a living? "I'm a wirer."

PPS -- Of course, Oscar has an MBA, so he kills any argument for the value of getting a college degree (and an advanced one at that).

Rob(b), the most pathetic excuse for a man ever, a fat marginally-employed emotionally-stunted, pile of lard and ego, whose wife doles out his weekly allowance like he's going to blow it all at the candy store, should probably shut the fuck up.

Simple.

I just reminded Robb that his birthday was coming up today. You longtime listeners will know what that means.

His resistance was futile.

Thankfully, it will be over very, very quickly. What used to be a problem is now a blessing.

If your kids are less than half as stupid as you are, they will still be lucky to find fast food careers. College is definitely out of the question for your family, so don't waste your time contemplating it.
