Interminable, aggressively unfunny opening bit has Mike impersonating Haley Barbour, pimping the AG nomination of Jeff Sessions, for what seems like a full calendar year. Fucking bit wouldn't end. He gets pissy when Oscar, skimming Wikipedia, asks "Haley" to comment on the fact that Sessions had nominated Rosa Parks for the Congressional Gold Medal, thus fucking up the "southern Republicans are racist" underpinning of the bit.
After the show opening proper, Mike launches into a defense of the bit, stating that the political content on TMOS is going to be "light hearted," and we'd just experienced a taste of what's to come.
...so, there's that.
Then P1 listener, pilot Joel Rogers, is in studio today, and somehow the show devolves into Oscar kinda sparring with him for ill-defined reasons-- except for a glorious several-minute digression in which Mike asks Intern Dan O'Brien to step up to the mic and explain that Big Idea he had about printing emergency numbers on the back of college student ID's. Dan does this with characteristic earnestness and self-involvement, and it puts a hard stop to the grilling Oscar was giving the pilot.
In the chat room, as O'Brien is explaining his idea, Intern Diego remarks to the chatters: "'Cause if I'm getting raped at school, the card with the info's gonna save me."
