I hope this is true. Snyder's Red Zebra Triple-X thing is a fucking joke...

Snyder Furious About Losing NFL Package To JFK - 7/13 - DCRTV told you several weeks ago (see our 6/19 Rant) that a Westwood One deal to put the NFL Primetime game package, which includes the playoffs and Super Bowl, on CBS's Baltimore sports talker WJZ-FM, 105.7 The Fan, was part of a package deal to put the game package on a batch of CBS sports talkers, including the upcoming WJFK in DC. Now, Tom Taylor at Radio-Info.com tells us: "Has CBS scored the Westwood slate of NFL games for its new DC sports talker, WJFK? Heard that speculation over the weekend - that WTEM owner Dan Snyder (right) isn't happy to lose so much NFL play-by-play, to put it mildly. Of course the bottom layer of this - if it's true - is that Snyder is an NFL team owner as well as a radio station owner in the DC, Richmond, and Norfolk markets. He's used to getting his own way. Everybody expects WJFK to ditch talk for sports sometime in the next week. That would put it head-to-head with Snyder's WTEM".....

So two of the Junkies were back early this morning. I heard them do an interview with Bruce Boudreau. A preview of the new sports format? Then they did an interview with one of their stoner fans and it felt like the show hit the brakes. If they are going to do sports talk, they need to do sports talk. It's going to involve a little bit more than The Junkies doing what they normally do with a couple of sports interviews thrown in.

Straight from DCRTV this morning.

Confirmed: Westwood One To Discontinue O'Meara - 7/14 - DCRTV's reported rumblings that the Mike O'Meara (right) show will not only be yanked from CBS's WJFK when it flips to sports talk later this month, but will also no longer be syndicated nationwide by Westwood One. Now we hear this from the Facebook of KCJJ in Iowa City, Iowa, a longtime "Don And Mike Show" and Mike O'Meara affiliate in Iowa City: "We received notice from Westwood One that the Mike O'Meara will be rerun for the next 30 days and then will be no more. KCJJ is hopeful the show will be able to find a new home soon and be available to us again. A special goodbye segment that was taped earlier may be run this Friday. We will carry the show until the network stops sending it. CBS Radio sucks. And they can go to hell. And they suck!".....

I don't feel bad for him for losing his show, because it was awful and needed to be but down. I do feel bad for him if he seriously believed the line of bullshit that was being fed to him by Michael Hughes about "not going anywhere." Anybody who has spent any time in radio should know that there is no such thing as "a sure thing" and that management will lie out their ass to avoid a confrontation or to get you to play along before they fuck you over. The fact that Mike apparently didn't understand that makes me think that a) his ego was just that big and/or b) Don kept him insulated from a lot of shit over 2+ decades, so he really didn't understand what he was dealing with.

I especially like the "CBS Radio sucks. And they can go to hell. And they suck!"

I notice that the Facebook page is now down. I wonder if some kid working at the station put that up there and if the GM got a call from CBS once the link got around the industry a bit.

It's Official: JFK To Do Sports Flip Monday, O'Meara Gone - 7/14 - DCRTV hears that CBS Radio will make the official announcement today that guy talker WJFK will become "Sportsradio 106.7 The Fan" at 6 AM on Monday, 7/20. As DCRTV has told you, CBS suits are meeting with advertisers at noon today at the Verizon Center. As expected, the Junkies, now the Sports Junkies, will remain in morning drive. And, as we've reported, Mike Wise will be paired with Bill Rohland in middays, with Chad Dukes and Lavar Arrington doing afternoon drive. There will be a website at 1067thefandc.com. And, as we've reported, the Wizards will air on JFK this fall, with Dave Johnson and Glenn Consor calling the games. Plus, as we've hinted, JFK will be carrying Westwood One's NFL "Primetime" package of Thursday, Sunday, and Monday games, plus the playoffs and the Super Bowl. That package had aired on Redskins owner Dan Snyder's WTEM, ESPN 980. We also get confirmation that longtime afternooner Mike O'Meara is a gonner. His show is in reruns this week. We hear that O'Meara will do a farewell segment, but not a full live show, on Friday, 7/17. More soon.....

WTL,

You were right on the mark from day one of this thread. Mike O'Meara was never prepared to lead a world class show like the Don & Mike Show. He thought he could rely on Robb and Buzz and still basically call it in. But Buzz could only spout days old news slanted to the far left and Robb never had any on air talent. Nothing is worse then to listen to someone like Robb, a person who was probably tormented in high school, now acting like the "Big Dog" and have it come across as so painfully obvious that he is still a Big Dork.

This was why that show was doomed from the beginning. No Leadership, (Mike), Agenda Driven crap (Buzz), and trying to be the Big Man on Campus when that time was long gone (Robb).....

What was expected by most people who started to listen to the MOM Show at first was at least some semblance of what Don started and while they could never measure up at least they should have and could have done a better job than the pathetic piece of SHIT show they walked through each day....Good Fucking Riddance to them all....

I'm really not sure what kind of chemistry Dukes or anyone else is going to have with LeVar Arrington. Arrington is okay, but it's not like you have Fred Smoot or Randel El sitting there.

Yes. Especially the way they bust on Vinny Cerrato all of the time. Personally, I'm surprise Danny Boy hasn't fired them already. Maybe he will.

As for Red Zebra, the problem is the signal sucks. I don't want to listen to AM, and I have to switch between the two FM signals as I drive. And I don't think you can even get the FM signals in DC.

Danny Boy should have bought 103.5 or 100.3 back when the rumors were flying that he was in the hunt and those were on the market. Now CBS is going to fuck him royally...which he deserves.

I like the Sports reporters as well. In my opinion it's the only listen-able sports show in DC. Hopefully, JFK will kick ass on the J. Thompson show -- it won't take much... just anyone who can properly use te English language.

I wonder what will happen to Big O? It's gotta suck being him trying to get through this week knowing it's his last.

I have no idea, but I am pretty damn sure it wasn't the seven figures that have been bandied about here. I would have to believe it was in the $200k to $350K realm...which would have still been way too much for what he produced.

I was just remembering my favorite part about the D&M show was monday. Every monday at 3pm I couldn't wait to hear the recap of thier weekends, especially Don. It was almost always a guaranteed 90min of great radio. It made monday worth living. Once the MoM picked up where D&M left off, mondays quickly become the worst day of the week because it started the begining of another week of hack radio by MoM.

I'm glad they're keeping Dukes, seems like half the shows won't just be nuts and bolts sports that we are used to.

I'm glad I was able to hear that clip - everything I know about MOM is encapsulated in that 10 minutes or so. The sentence WTL quotes above is vintage MOM - on the golf course, in bar after bar. Total and complete dick.

It's hilarious to listen to his toadies, Rob(baye) and Buzz act like parrots during MOM's diatribe: "yeah", "right", "uh-huh", over and over. Jesus they should have been so embarrassed they should have left the studio while MOM was screaming like a maniac.

I'll bet he knew the clock was ticking at that time and there was going to be no stay of execution. What else would cause even a dick like O'Meara to make a fool of himself over some text messages.

O'Meara was clearly referring to the DCRTV weekly PPM summaries - and it was funny to hear him say that when his numbers went up he wasn't being given any credit "here at WJFK" or on the 'ol internets. Boo-fucking-Hoo you jackass.

Don's name came up a couple of times during the rant. O'Meara still has issues with Don leaving on his terms, ending O'Meara's slacker gravy train, and forcing him to work, and of course fail.

I don't feel sorry for any of the O'Meara crew. People with much more radio talent are under or un-employed. Yes, it's time for the crew to pack up their cars and take their PM-drive time zoo to the old AM station in North Carolina BA McBride worked for.

And yes, Jack Diamond/Harvey Joel Fisher is laffing, and laffing and lafffffing!!

What an ass.

I hate Jack Diamond, too, but at least he isn't pretending to be edgy or to have integrity. That's what really pissed me off about Mike is that he would pretend not to be shilling or selling out or being Michael Hughes's bitch, while he was doing all of it.

Congrats WTL! You get to be center pull in the circle jerk for a day. Such strength and courage you showed to be the first to predict the demise of a show you supposedly don't listen to. Now what will you do with your days? Maybe you can get Sacramento Hater to come over and tea-bag you. Better yet, you can be the first to predict that California is going to have an earthquake. Then when it happens in 6 months, you can get tea-bagged by one of your other admirers. What a bunch of miserable losers. And no, I'm not an employee of the MOM show. Vaya con Dios.

Radio is going the way of TV - cheap and easy. The sad thing is that there enough mental midgets out there who actually want to listen to an "All Sports" station. CBS made made a business decision. FUCK CBS RADIO AND THEIR MONEY GRUBBING, BRAIN DEAD EXECUTIVES!!!! The idiotic move will bit them in the ass eventually.

Mike O'Meara and Don Geronimo are real radio people with a gift to do excellent radio. There are few of them left, thanks to conservative talk radio. The morons who listen to this garbage as well as the imbeciles who think sports talk radio is a good thing, listeners and programmers alike, are going to kill good radio.

Sorry "Who Cares", I don't know WTL and I am not Familiar with his sexual persuasion. Not that it matters nor should mine.

Sounds like you may be a little bit Homophobic (you are trying to hard to fool your friends that you are Heterosexual).

Perhaps you should seek out your own group of men who appeal to your sexual fantasies regarding masturbation and fellatio. The group you want to join doesn't exist, (except in your mind and your nocturnal emissions)....

I think Larry King sucks ass. Maybe I should start a thread about him? There's probably a pretty good chance he will be canceled or dead in 15 months, no?

Aren't losers people who lose their jobs after 15 months of saying they wouldn't? I'm confused!

There is potential in what WJFK is trying to do by focus in on the local sports and not offer the castrated, generic nuts and bolts sports programming we are used to from ESPN. I guess its a hybrid of guy talk and sports talk.

However, The Junkies said that thier show format is not going to change at all. How long do you give them to last with that sort of effort? If they don't focus in more sports, even just a little and cut back on the celebrity reporting, poker talk, and boreing home life, i don't see how they will survive.

The Junks show needs a complete overhaul if WJFK wants to expand the listner base. I agree with whoever says they need to stop or at least cut back with all the inside lingo.

Okay I got that out of my system.

I just have to say that D&M took me back and forth to work every weekday from the time I got a real job until Don retired. Mike and Rob and Buzz and BethAnn and short-timer Kewpie-doll voiced Katie picked up the torch and ran as hard as they could with it and did damn good job. You could actually hear Mike maturing as his own act over the last few years.

Bart was just about the same age as my son and we all "helped" Mike work out things with "thumbalina" the ice skating golddigger and his little girls and troubles with his um-er restaurant (which was really a dumb idea for a hard drinkin Irishman - I know what you were thinkin' but someone should hit you over the head before you signed the papers - DON'T open another one in retirement you'll end up sleepin' on a bench down in Fla.!!!!. No offense it just is what it is)

When D and M went to mid-day during the dark days of Dopie and Anathema I thought I would have to get a different job to fit my hours around the show. Thankfully that did not last too long just like Donny predicted.

I always hoped they would carry me around the f'in beltway and 270 until I retired. Well, guys we almost got there. metaphorically speaking we were just a couple of exits away.

Maybe they'll find a spot on the dial at DC101 or or that station Cerph is/was running (warw?) or the NEW WHFS (never thought I'd see that happen!)'

I can see Mike and/or Buzz checkin' out for retirmentland but whatabout Rob-ay, Joe A, MB and KT and everyone else Mike was carrying? It just makes me sad.

As always if you weren't a fan you should have just shut the fuck up and changed the station. But for me there's no other show worth listening to...I guess Big O and Dukes (whatever) will have to do until I can cash in my 401k and move to the beach. I hear Donnie is doing a show out of Ocean City but I've never heard it.

Well, I love you guys. I'll miss you all very much and I'll be listening for you out there somewhere. "Thanks for the memories", tug on your ear and mop up the spotlight guys.

I gotta go to work. I wonder if I'll get lost on the way home...

Sincerely

Mark G

100% agree. When they have a good interview and then resort to the "It's Rick, Donk!" bullshit, it really shuts down any momentum. They really need to listen to the Sport Reporters on WTEM to get an idea of how you integrate a free flow discussion into sports reporting. Most of the listeners who would tune in for baseball, football or basketball are not the same people who want to hear about MMA or poker. They need to address it or, as you say, they will please no one.

i disagree. if i wanted to listen to all sports, then i'd tune into an all sports show. they're doing the same thing they've always done even with the "inside" lingo. if you listen more than once a month, you'll understand what they're saying. if you don't like poker or mma, then listen to espn. although they're catching on too.

What drives me nuts about WTEM though is there are commerical breaks every 5-8 minutes. Between each break are the station identifiations, scores (ok fine its a sports station), and the teasers for the upcoming 3rd and 4th segments that amount to nothing, and the intro when they come back from break. I bet in the 3 hours time slot of the Sports reporters, is only 90min of actual content. Its impossible to get a good discussion to flow with that format. The one thing WJFK will do well is allow a conversation topics to develop amongst hosts and callers.

There was a post on DCRTV yesterday from a former employee of O’Meara and his restaurant. The poster said that Mike skipped out on paying his employees their last paychecks and owed several former employees $5000.

There are a couple of other posts on the web from people claiming to have worked for Mike and not getting paid to the tune of $5000.

I don’t see that post on DCRTV anymore. I wish they would put it back up or whoever posted it would post it here so people can read it.

If it is true, Mike is a real dirtbag in my book.

Rumor is he has a recorded bit that will play on Friday. I don't think he will be back on live because I don't think WJFK management trusts him given that they probably lied to his face repeatedly over the last six months.

It's popular with a target demographic that used to be served by WWE back inthe day, but I wouldn't say it's "here to stay." I think it has reached a high point in popularity. It will probably be around for a while, but I don't see it rising to the level of the NFL, NASCAR or NBA.

If they can talk about MMA and be entertaining about it, then I think most people will listen without turning the dial. MMA will probably be around for as long as Dana White is around. After he leaves or passes on the sport will probably go back into the basement.

Perhaps show hosts will actually report on most sporting news instead of making it like ESPN does. WJFK as the current line up stands is poised to be sports tabloid talk radio.

The worst is "Greenie" on Mike and Mike. Golic is decent, but Greenberg is a fucking tool. I don't give a fuck about "the fan's perspective." I'm a fan and I didn't elect the fuck to represent me!

Big and Dukes did a segment were they counted how many times he used "Mike and Mike in the morning" as verbal crutch during one show. I think it was 80times or something ridiculous like that. Yeah, I cant stand "Greenie" on the radio, quite possibly the worst voice on the radio. He's another ESPN no talent blow hard.

Oh come on, Greenie is more than likely retarded, but I think those two have a good chemistry. He's a poofter and seems ok with it. I watch those two when I get a chance, but a lot gets lost in the radio; Golic looking at Greenie with disgust kinda' is a visual thing...
