You just have to compare Mike's show to that of Elliot Seagal or Big O and Dukes or even the Junkies. Im not a great fan of any of them, but the others seem to flow; the personalities seem at ease jive with each other and seem comfortable on the air

Signs Mike O'Meara's Show is in trouble...

- Weatherman Tony Perkins is your most frequent guest.
- You have to rely on Beth Ann McBride for "comic relief."
- Robbay no longer likes being called a Nazi.
- Buzz is allowed to say something besides the news.
- "Buzz Babes."
- Whatever happened to Joe Ardinger?
- You have to be drunk on the air to tolerate your own show.
- Password anyone?
- Your guest list is more liberal than the line-up at Democracy Now.
- You are interviewing authors whose last book was published 20 years ago.
- You laugh incessantly on the air to cover up the fact nobody else is laughing.
- You play clips from Jay Leno because "they are so funny!"
- You prostitute everything you have learned over the past 30 years in order to keep your paycheck.

Excellent analysis! This sums it up perfectly. Listening to AM in a thunderstorm is more interesting than the O'Meara show.

Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do, watcha gonna do

When you were eight
And you had bad traits
You go to school and you learn the golden rule
So why are you acting like a bloody fool
If you get hot you must get cool

Bad boys, bad boys
Watcha gonna do whatcha gonna do
When they come for you (repeat)

You chuck it on this one
You chuck it on this one
You chuck it on mother and
You chuck it on you father
You chuck it on you brother and
You chuck it on you sister
You chuck it on that one and you chuck it on me

Nobody naw give you no break
Police naw give you no break
Soldier naw give you no break
Not even you idren naw give you no break

Why did you have to act so mean don't you know
You're a human being born of a mother with
The love of a father reflections come and reflections go
I know sometimes you want to let go
I know sometimes you want to let go

What I have seen is that the show dropped at least a quarter of D&M's listeners. And that's just for the first month or so when people were willing to give the show a chance. I anticipate by the end of this year O'Meara's ratings will be half those of D&M.

Any ratings info based ion a one month "trend" is not reflective of a three month ratings window. Wait until all 3 months are in to make 1st decisions about this show. PS: Arbitron's information is traditionally 30-45 days late. Going on that, any momentary increases seen by Mike OMara are most likely do to large listener turnout for Don G's final shows. REAL ratings info will not be out for 6 months. Will this show make it? My ears say no.

At this point it is a case of economics. Big-O and Dukes cost less than the Mike O'Meara ensemble. Does anyone think Big-O and Dukes would pull smaller numbers than Mike in that same time slot? I don't think so. As for middays, find some chick-chat show to throw on there. Secretaries at work are the only ones listening at that time anyway.

Mike is leaning so heavy on the news to be his show that he really doesn't have any real original material for best ofs. THey should have just played music instead of running the best ofs.

At an absolute MINIMUM, they should move Big O and Dukes to the 3pm (drive home) slot and relegate the Mike Omeara Show to the 10am or 7PM slot.

Even when Mike has an on air call in "Contest" he will spend two segments or more listening to their stories. After suffering through all of that, he then spontaneously decides who the winner is without consulting with Rob and Buzz. What kind of contest is that? The whole format BLOWS

Mike opened the gate and Big O and Dukes will walk in. Mike will go to 7p.m. Mike is turing into IMUS. NAY, MIKE IS IMUS, and Robbay is a cheap imitation Bernard McGuirk and Buzz is Charles McCord.

chadalad, I could agree with that, but I also have thought from time to time that mike's show is turning into the jack diamond show. however, don't have a parallel list of characters from JD's show to compare to mike's.

And that comparison's particularly ironic because of Mike's history with Diamond... wasn't he a co-host or some kind of contributor to Diamond's show before he hooked up with Don? And didn't he complain bitterly about those years, later on?

(These questions aren't exactly rhetorical - I wasn't in the area at the time and I'm actually wondering if I've picked up Don & Mike's on-air references to Diamond's show correctly.)

Mike is even complimentary (almost in awe) of the fact that Big O and Dukes seemed to have mastered the art of "killing" on-air time. Big O can probably broadcast a 12 hour show that is more entertaining than the MOS. Mike just doesnt seem to have enough content to "kill" his four hours. I recall in the Don and Mike days, they could have taken listener phone calls all day and still had a fairly entertaining show. Mike cant even do that. He seems to pre-screen every call to ensure he doesnt get any of the negative callers. At least Don used to let them on-air and duke it out with them. Hence, Mike is left to "kill" time with his ill-prepared band of misfits who should be selling floor coverings (ie Beth Anne), doing a ten minute newscast on another radio show (Buzz), screening phone call for the Junkies (Rob) or searching the internet for a new girlfriend (Mike) because Carla is going to leave him the day the gravy-trian comes to a halt...........

Back when Mike first broke into Maryland radio, he worked for an Annapolis based radio station called WYRE. This was back in the early 1980's and his boss was Jack Diamond. Jack Diamond was Program Director and Mike hated him. Mike was the early morning DJ and the station eventually became WBEY Country 103. You have probably seen the studios. It's off Rt. 50 after crossing the Kent Narrows bridge and is behind the Fisherman's Inn.

Anyway, Jack moved on to his current situation and Mike eventually became Program Director. Later, Mike left and starting doing free lance work until he hooked up with Don at the old WAVA. He let his success get to his HEAD and backstabbed many people who cared about him.

Hopefully, he doesn't read this forum because it would literally KILL him if he read that he was being compared now to - Jack Diamond.

Beth Ann is representative of the vast majority of people who work in radio and television, primarily in smaller markets. They have no talent and no business being on the air, but they refuse to find something else. You either "have the pipes" or you don't for radio. You hear that on O'Meara's show. Mike - though his show sucks - has a great on-air presence, as does Buzz. Robbay, Beth Ann and Joe sound like shit on the air. The only reason I like Joe is that he doesn't pretend to be good, unlike Robb, so he is enjoyable to listen to (when given the rare opportunity these days).

I parially agree with the Mike "on air" presence. He was absolutely comfortable (and likeable) as a sidekick to Don. He is completely uncomfortable being the "lead" on-air personality and it translates into the audience not being comfortable and it being a sucky show. It's as if they wake up (leisurely) each morning and throw the show together a half hour before they go on-air. It's strange...although they are completely unprepared, the entire show feels completely scripted....

After a summer of retirement he'll probably get bored and want to get back into radio.

Lori N. - Going by Mike's comments/innuendo on the former and current show, his girlfriend wants both things to happen.

"...Whaddya care?" - by Puckett

I just think that Mike should either Marry her or let her go find another man. I don't think it is right to keep stringing Carla along. He wouldn't like it if some man twenty years older was doing that to his daughters.

Wait a minute. Carla is a grown woman. If she feels the need to continue to live him, that is her choice. He has made it clear on the air that he is loathe to remarry/. He has also said that he doesn't want any more kids. Of course, that may be just an act for the radio. I just find it weird that she has moved in with him. I also find it a little weird that he takes his daughters on trips where he and Carla share a room. Girls in their age group are very impressionable and that cannot be a good situation for them. How can he be acting like he is going to be a strict dad about the girls sleeping with their boyfreinds and yet he does it.

Plus I hate the way he brags about how young and good looking she is. I can't imagine what he would have in common with her.

Did anyone else notice that Mike was eluding to the fact that he may have some very good news to share in the near future regarding expanding markets/syndication.... I cant believe they would want to test this disaster anywhere else. This would be a good morning show for the house fraus in a small market so that Mike can offer cooking and sewing tips. That's about what the show has come to.....

The pathetic thing about the Friday drinking shows is how badly Mike has to play up the fact that he's all "crazy and anything could happen" after just a few drinks, which should obviously not have that big an effect on him.

I think Carla is going down the wrong path and I feel sorry for her. It is one thing to go to a singles bar as a twenty year old, it is another to go when you are almost pushing thirty. Mike needs to be a man for once in his life and either commit or let her go. It is not far to use her for her youth and then throw her to the curb. Be a man Mike.

Carla needs to stop the ole' birth control and get preggers if she wants Mikes money and he doesn't want to get married. If she was married to Mike, by default, everything he did while they were married she would get half. Sell a business - she gets half the profit. Buy a car - she gets half. Buy/Sell a house - she gets half. JOINT OWNERSHIP. Had Carla MARRIED Mike instead of "Dating" him, her net worth right now would probably be close to 2 million. As it is, she has nothing. Stupid bitch.

Mike O'Meara isn't worth 4 million, 2 million or half-a-million. Mike O'Meara was an employee of Don Geronimo. Don made all of the money. Mike got paid a salary. Between his many divorces and his failed restaurant, I'd be surprised if he has anything leftover after paying bills each paycheck.

Is that true? It makes sense because even though Mikes name was on the show, he really was Don's lackey many ways. I heard Baba Booey "only" makes $120K a year so that would only make sense the "bit players" ( hwich is really all O'Meara was) get paid far less..

That is pretty standard practice in the industry. That $100 million, or whatever Sirius pays Howard Stern, is a contract with Stern's production company. Stern pays Robin, Baba Booey, etc, out of that money.

If you followed the Don & Mike Show, you would always hear folks talk about Don being a millionaire. You never heard that about Mike. Also, when Don decided to retire, there wasn't going to be a job for Mike when Don left. Don fought with WJFK to hire Mike. To me, that is an indication that WJFK had a contract with Don for X-Amount of money and Don hired his own crew...specifically Mike, Buzz and Robbay. I think Beth Ann, John Norman, Joe, etc, are/were always WJFK employees.

Just saw on dcrtv.com that the new Mike show was 10th over all in afternoons, sounds like he's having a self congratulatory drinking party on air today, Seems to me to be a bit under the usual ratings garnered by the Don&Mike show. I guess standards are lower now. Same after Howard Stern left. The replacements were gabbing about how they kept all of his audience. Really. Of well have fun while it lasts, Mike O!

The ratings actually went up in the Spring book. Of course, nobody wants to factor in the fact that period included Don's leaving and Mike's debut, so you will see a certain curiosity bump. I have not doubt by the Winter book Mike's numbers will begin to look sad.

Here's the deal. I listened to Don and Mike for 10 years. When my D&M affiliate in Lafayette, LA dropped the show in 2006 (on my damn birthday, no less), I started listening online and to the podcasts when I couldn't listen online. I was a fan of the D&M Show.

I gave Mike a chance. I really was interested to see what the new show would be like. However, I'm sorely disappointed by what this new show is. Beth Anne is an absolute moron who is addicted to crappy reality shows. Buzz is pretty cool as long as he doesn't start talking about weed and/or politics (but it seems like he's ALWAYS talking about weed or politics). Mike is without a doubt the laziest host on radio today. It seems like all he does is approve the 50 crappy guests that BA lines up each day.

Finally, the Buzz Babes: What is the point of these idiots other than to allow Mike and Buzz to get their nut at work? These morons absolutely suck the air out of the room when they're on the show. This whole situation where they get on their, giggle, and pretend to flirt with Buzz is about as tedious as trying to repair a watch.

When I see an interesting-sounding segment of the podcasts, I'll listen. However, I'm no longer (and never plan to be ever again) a regular 4 hour a day listener.

Mike actually had a good bit going about condoms the other day, and I noticed that bethann was nowhere to be found during the discussion. It was that natural banter that used to happen back in the old D&M days...

I haven't listened to the show in a while, so I haven't actually heard the whole Buzz Babe thing. However, if it is anything like Howard Stern talking to strippers, it is death. I think Howard Stern is phenomenal when he is talking to celebrities or bashing one of the Whack Packers. But when he does this flirting with strippers or porn stars, it is boring as hell. I imagine the Buzz Babes segment sounds about the same.

The next ratings book is going to be interesting as Arbitron is shifting from listening journals to personal people meters, which is a devise that records the station and time through a frequency emitted by the radio station. I like to see the number of people who listen for 10 seconds and then turn it off.

Dittos to the poster about washing the Don out of the ratings cycle. The REAL test will be this summer ratings period, with no Din G in the mix at all. Sidebar! Mike's show went to a 3.3 in the Spring, up from a 3.1 in the Winer. 2 tenths of a point, Yea Team. Real bad news to come when this time frame -July-Aug-Sept- comes out.

Glad to see some people who agree with me that this show sucks. I'm tired of listening to JFK producers shove the "slaying in the ratings" bit down our throats, this show has no chance. I loved D&M and couldn't wait to listen to it every day, now I am listening in just to give Mike a chance and it's terrible! Rob and Buzz take themselves way too seriously; they have no business attempting to be funny on the radio.

Don's negativity and overall genuine self-loathing was comforting on the show and hilarious. These guys try to pull off the self-loathing bit but it doesn't work because you can tell they are egotistical and are trying to pull off a fake show. I mean the guests are horrific and Mike's (fake) laugh is the most annoying sound I've heard since Ace Ventura. Mike can only be a sidekick.

It won't last - I say have the Junkies on 24/7.

The show has a bounce in the Spring book from Don leaving. I would be surprised if the numbers hold up into the Summer and Fall books.

What I really enjoy is DCRTV giving kudos to Michael Hughes for putting in place a live line-up at WJFK. The same Michael Hughes who inherited a live line-up when he arrived at WJFK and who spent the next couple of years chasing off people like Ron & Fez and replacing them with canned political shows like O'Reilly and Jay Severin. And let's not forget those disastrous forays into amateur hour with Peter Rosenberg and that horrific knock-off of Loveline.

According to DCRTV, Don Geronimo has been fired from the Ocean City gig.

"Says the mysterious Mr. Sorce: "They fired me for talking too much and adlibbing during live reads. Oh, and I wanted more than $10 an hour. All true, gotta love radio... Next move maybe sooner before later... but I did have fun for a month"....."

As I predicted more than a month ago...

I like Don, but how long do you think it will be before he is bitching on the air about the GM in Ocean City? Even if it is a part-time gig, I'm sure Don will find something to complain about.

Hey, what a suprise. Another episode of the wonderful game "Power of Ten", now "Power of 5." They ask obscure questions which no one in their right mind should know the answers to? What a blast (NOT!!!).

And Mike didnt even have the common sense of steering clear of his stupid bit/impression of Morgan Freedman from his hospital bed. Not only does the show suck, but now Mike wants to teeter on becoming the next Don Imus......

As someone from Salisbury, Md -formerly a resident of FFX cty-, I can attest that Don's show on Ocean 98 was truly brilliant. Especially when compared to what Mike O Meara is doing. I for one wish Don would pull a Brett Favre and come back. It sounded like he was good and happy, and without the snippy ness. Maybe 1067 will wise up. Or just put )&Dukes in afternoons. Mikes show is a bad waste of g\poorly done game shows.

Also, Don was more spontaneous over song intros and taking calls and reading mails then Mike has been in talk format. Interesting.
