Semantics, semantics, semantics. Cary's the one who made the declaration that this is a private message board. The poster made a valid point that the description at these sites is at odds with the very thing Cary said here.

And, if what you say is correct and it's only semantics and doesn't matter, then what difference does it make if the the description at these sites is changed to reflect Cary's own words. This is not a public message board and the sites advertising it as such should be informed of the error.

And yes, they are arguing semantics, but I agree that my recent statements deserve a bit of explanation.

This is not a "public" forum in the sense that no funding for this site is provided by the government or any "public" funds. It is absolutely a public forum in the sense that it's open to all, while still being privately owned and controlled.

When notorious troll "lizzie" said "It's a public forum. I am the public" she was implying that she has the RIGHT to post on this forum. This view is incorrect as posting here is a privilege extended to the public, but she certainly has no RIGHT to anything.

I try my best to run this forum in the most fair and transparent manner possible but always welcome criticisms and requests for clarification.

The user that posts here as "Alias" has been banned over 50 times. This user has a years-long posting history under various handles and pseudonyms.

At one point this user was impersonating me personally, claiming to be "The Moderator" while at the same time posting racist and homophobic material in an apparent attempt to discredit the forum as a whole.

The user Alias consistently used tor exit-nodes, cell network dynamic IP addresses and other proxy servers to evade bans, conceal their identity and generally make moderation of their comments en masse nearly impossible.

"Alias" recently edited out (blanked out) many of the their early posts in an attempt to distance themselves from this earlier abuse. The ability of "Alias" to edit old posts has just been removed and I may reverse their edits in the near future.

Most damning is that I've never seen any evidence to suggest this poster is even based in Northern Virginia. All evidence suggests that this poster is based out of the Richmond, VA area. I have FAR less tolerance for abuse from users outside of Northern Virginia.

Mass disruption of legitimate uses of this forum, especially attempts to discredit the forum as a whole by users not even located in Northern Virginia are NEVER tolerated.

Alias is prolific, intelligent, and well-versed at disrupting the normal discourse in an unmoderated forum while concealing their identity. After years of dealing with on-again off-again abuse from this individual the decision was finally made to ban them entirely.

Had this poster ACTUALLY been based out of Northern Virginia I would have been far more lenient in my moderation and bans.

You mention that she is deleting her posts. Yes, she is. But, if you recall, Cary, she sent you an email.

In that same email, she asked if you would remove her account, should you have no intention of releasing the ban.

You never responded to her email, Cary.

So, she began the process of deleting her posts.... slowly erasing herself from your message board.

He asked Alias to give him her account password. Alias declined his kind offer. He asked a second time; she declined again.

Cary, you didn't ban Alias because of a few stupid posts she made one Sunday afternoon.

Whatever your real reason, it no longer matters.

BUT..... Alias would like to finish the process of deleting herself from your message board, so if you'd be so kind as to allow her to do so, she will agree to leave when she's finished, and never return.

The fact that Alias used Tor, tethered cell phones, and various proxy servers seems to give the lie to this statement. That's quite an array of technologies to bring to bear just to evade bans on a message board.

Although most of them are fairly easy to set up and use for someone of a technical bent, your average Joe Slackjaw wouldn't even know about some of them.
