Past results have some bearing on the future, whether it's a mechanical draw or a pseudo-random number generator. Test runs are used to disrupt these tendencies. If they publicized the results of the test runs, they could be used in a statistical analysis of the drawings. In the long run, they have no impact as the distribution of the numbers tend to spread out evenly.

A basic course on Game Theory will dispel you of this notion.

The Lottery folks go way out of their way to insure there is no measurable bias in the number picking.

Here's an analysis for 700+ drawings:

http://www.virginialottery.com/megamillions/game_analysis.asp

And here is the video showing the last drawing - note how the randomizer works:

http://www.virginialottery.com/megamillions/video.asp?quality=high&date=3/27/2012

===============

Note, however, that PEOPLE are not so random - there are LOTS of sets of numbers that people pick over and over again. Any consecutive sequence, for example, is pretty much guaranteed to have more than one person playing it (like 1 2 3 4 5 6. or 6 5 4 3 2 1, etc or 2 4 6 8 10 12, etc). Sets with '7' and '13' are undoubtedly popular. Sets that, for example, begin with '1' and end with '56' with the Megaball as '1' or '46' are probably popular. The PREVIOUS drawings set of numbers is probably popular.

So...

If you want to increase your chance of NOT sharing the top prize, pick random sets of numbers that minimally overlap the above sets. You won't increase your chance of WINNING, but you will increase your chance, should you win, that you win alone!

I recall that there was a statistician who cracked the random number generator on one of the 3-number lotteries.

Due to lottery sales it's now up to $212+ after taxes.

Here ya go - an article about this time's Megamillions with an incorrect evaluation of what buying ALL number combinations would mean - they forgot to include the SUB-prizes in their winnings totals. In any case, however, they mention the Australian win:

Well, it's up to $273+ million after tax now - lot of enthusiasm out there.

I wonder how many will share the top prize.

After I got all of my shit lined up and gots my cash, I'd covertly give tens of thousands or more to a friend of mine who has two special needs kids. They could never know it was from me because they wouldn't take a such "handout". Life is so much more difficult for them than most of us, but they get through it pretty well despite all the shit. It'd have to be a briefcase of cash on their doorstep with a note or something similar. Maybe buy them a new car and have it delivered with the money in the trunk.

Harem of Wives. This sounds like the exact opposite of what you would want. You must be crazy.

Become president, deport all libs to their Muslim Utopian middle east, then nuke the bastards. Increase oil production in the USA and become a super power again instead of the international liberal laughing stock of a failed leadership country.

Is that 10 million cash or annuity? If its annuity that is 500k per year after taxes - not bad but you are not going to buy everyone in your family a new home. The net is a little less than double what average CEO's net. Same as having 2 CEO household.

So to answer the question: 1. Hire attorney and accountant 2. form a plan of action 3. Implement plan. For me priorities would be to retire non-beneficial debt, research private schools for my kids to finish Middle/HS in - if they look that much better than current excellent schools plan to move near private school and enroll kids, new cars for the wife and I (probably a Telsa and lux sedan under 70k), new furniture, and Id plan a couple years worth of vacation trips to scout out some retirement/vacation locations, plan vacations with the family around the world. I already know and contribute to some excellent charities so I would increase my participation and contributions to those.

I dont think the annuity would be enough to dole any money out to family unless there were emergencies. Even with the 10 mil cash Id hesitate to simply give cash away to family - our families are all pretty happy, why mess with that. Maybe gifts for college for the kids but that would be it outside of emergencies.

Money is not happiness whether you have a lot or a little. Very little money can be a problem but in FFX most of us have enough to focus on what matters in life after shelter, food and medicine...

Why a Kia? And why not silver plated?
