See where DHS Secretary Chertoff is saying his goal is to ship every illegal out of the U.S. in a year? Is that political B.S., or what? How the hell is he going to do that? How much is it going to cost?

How much is it going to cost to catch these people, detain them, and ship them out of the country - if you can find them, first? What Chertoff is proposing is what the Border Patrol used to do. Pick them up in a truck, drive them 40 miles into Mexico, and dump them. You know what happens? They are back the next day.
The best way to deal with this is to eliminate the incentive for them to come over. Begin prosecuting employers. They are breaking the laws, too. And, unlike the illegals, they are under U.S. jurisdiction. Fine the crap out of them. If you make it so costly to hire an illegal that nobody wants to do it, these people are going to have no reason to come here in the first place. It is more practical, more effective and will cost a hell of a lot less.

That's part of the picture. But it doesn't go nearly far enough. For one thing, the entire agriculture industry of this country is built--literally--on the backs of migrant farm workers. Migrant workers have a very difficult and transient life and many of the farmers are little better than the slave holders of yesteryear. But it's better than they get at home and it gets their kids into schools. Sure, a lot of the money goes back to Mexico, just like it used to go back to Ireland and Italy a hundred years ago.
We need a workable program that will allow that entry into our society. We need to find a workable way to legalize the migrant farm workers.
We also need to stop issuing driver's licenses to illegals. Stream KFI in LA and listen to Bill Handel talk about the situation with the illegals out there. Sure, bust the employers, but stop providing them with a government gravy train (relative to what they know) just for making it. When a municipality decides it will be a haven for illegals, it becomes an assessory for the asswipes who prey on people who want to get to those places. It becomes as responsible as anyone for the immigrants who die in the desert for lack of water or food or protection from the animals.
Then protect our borders. The reason the minutemen are doing it is because our government isn't. Even libertarians would have to agree that the Constitution provides for border protection by the Federal Government. Then, if you find them and ship them back, there's a better chance that they stay shipped.
Finally, audit the living crap out of La Raza.

Illegal aliens do break lots of laws. First of all they are basically trepassing a second of their freacking worthless lives. Second they knife people and rob places and they are all so hard to find and convict. I think we shouldn't deport them all they will just come back into America a few hours after we drop them back off in Mexico. I say every honest hard working American who has lost his job becuase an illegal immigrant doesn't pay taxes and can work for cheaper should get to participate in removing these pests from America. I'm thinking a massive firing squad get it over with fast and cheap.

The worst illegals are those who join gangs, like MS-13 (wish we had any idea exactley how many of them are illegal aliens), and the illegals who "guard" drug grow-ops. These guys feel like they have little to lose. The problem becomes, at that point, how do we get rid of THEM and keep the Rosas and Guadalupes that are cleaning our houses and the Miguels and Pedros who are mowing our lawns?
We probably can't. So a few bad apples means the rest of the bunch has to go in the trash, also.
