GREAT post.

Where do I start? First, Dales is indeed delicious, though its not an IPA and Flying Dog is a grossly over-rated brewery. Really, its substandard.

Starr Hill Northern Lights (Charlottesville)
Port City Monumental IPA (Alexandria)
New Belgum Ranger
Lagunitas IPA
Left Hand 400 Pound Monkey
Stone Runiation
DFH 90 Min.

Should I continue?

It's pretty rare that I find an IPA that I'm crazy about. I usually prefer pilsners, stouts, or Schwarzbier.

I do like the Dogfish 90 Minute, though.

RedHook's Longhammer

Heavy Seas makes one called loose cannon. Im not sure what it is about this one but normally I'll go for something else. Hoppy with floral undertones, IMO.

Sweetwaters is decent

Oh, and then check out this post from me in October.... IPAs of the north...

I don't typically drink the Sam specialty beers, either. But they do a pretty decent job with the IPA.

A good list many of you hit some of the best IPAs, a couple not listed (or I haven't seen anyway)

Rogue's - Brutal Bitter
Oskar Blues - Gubna Imperial
Sierra Nevada's - Bigfoot (seasonal)

These are all intense on the hops.

Very good points, friend.

I feel confident listing any Sierra Nevada product as worth trying. Everything ny Oskar Bues is great IMO. Try Dales Pale and the Ten Fiddy...Great stuff (in cans).

Tried a few tonight worth mentioning.

Two hearted ale...Solid IPA..I enjoyed it.

Nectar IPA...VERY GOOD

Green Flash Imperial IPA. I was expecting the moon. It was good, but not great. Still worth buying a bottle.

Hah, either wannabe Irish (or some dumbass Irish-American) or just a genuine Irish retard.
Either way, this thread was about beer.
And Bushmills is better than Jameson anyway. Jameson is mostly drunk by people that don't know shit about whisky (usually people that think it makes them extra 'Irish').
Hell, if they really knew whisky, they'd stick to scotch and bourbon.

Re: List the best IPAs here

Jameson sucks. People who are of Irish decent buy it because it's all they have. Kind of like I buy Absolut because I'm of Swedish decent. Wait, it's not like that at all. Absolut is good and Jameson (and all Irish Whiskey) suck balls. I'll take a good Bourbon or American Whiskey over the best Scotch any day and I'm just as much of a snob as the next guy.

OK, why the Jameson guy decided to make this about him in the first place is beyond me. This thread is about IPA, the best bear. I am actually enjoying a variety 6 pack, 5 of which were IPA.

The new imperial and double IPAs are awesome. Stone, Lagunitis, Dogfish 90, Raging Bitch, Torpedo are all thumbs up. Also the new Sierra Rye something. I could list a bunch of disappointments too but will focus on the best. The absolute best is probably not available right now and IMO is Avalanche small batch 460. That and Harpoon Leviathan (I used to love just regular Harpoon but IPA from 15 year old recipes don't have the floral flavor and punch that has become more of the norm with a higher alcohol content) but both are seasonals.

My edits...

Before someone corrects me, I meant that a good Bourbon or American Whiskey are better than any Irish Whiskey or Scotch and also this thread is about the best "beer" out there, not bear. Sorry. I told you, I'm 5 bears into my 6 pack and they are strong!

What variety six pack has five IPAs? Do you even know what an IPA is? And, no, it's not simply an ale.

Yeah...but I have a motorcycle. Means I have to do a bit more work to pick up beer than I would with a car. Combine that with the fact that I'm feeling too lazy, the weather isn't that good, and the grocery stores never have great beer - I really just don't want to bother.

Unless I've got a ride, I usually tend to pick up liquor, since it's easier to strap down a bottle than it is to strap down a box.

I'd have to empty all my school shit out just for a six-pack (couldn't fit a box in).

But the biggest factor isn't so much the trouble of strapping things down, it's more the time. It's not as enjoyable riding at night in the winter. The day is cold enough.

On top of what has already been mentioned, the following are certainly worth trying and typically available in NoVA, exceptions noted:

Avery IPA
Avery Maharaja(rotating release, comes out 2-3 times a year)
Avery DuganA(rotating release, comes out 2-3 times a year)
Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye
Ballast Point Big Eye
Epic Spiral Jetty
Full Sail IPA
Lagunitas Lil Sumthin Sumthin(style is debatable, but drinks like an IPA)
Lagunitas Sucks(this is seasonal but will be rereleased under a different name)
Smuttynose IPA
Southern Tier IPA
Southern Tier Unearthly
Southern Tier 2XIPA
Speakeasy Double Daddy
The Bruery Mischief(belgian style)
Uinta Detour

There are probably 100 I am forgetting and failing to mention seasonal and limited releases. Bell's Hopslam just came out the other day. Most likely it is sold out everywhere at this point, but any hophead is doing themselves a service picking it up. There should be a second drop around mid-February.

I like IPA's but I am not into the ones that are super hoppy and earthy. With that said, currently in my fridge is:

Bell's Two Heated Ale (Had this on tap at the Bungalow Alehouse in Gainesville and was hooked)

Kona Brewings Fire Rock Pale Ale (had this out in Hawaii at the brewery 8 or so years ago. They have a more potent one there)

Port City Monumental IPA and Essential Pale Ale (local and not bad)

Now I am just waiting for Lost Rhino to start putting beer in the stores to try them out. When they were Dominion (before they sold out) i loved their Tupper's Hop Pocket Ale.
