Tee-Vee Shows
Posted by: MrMephisto ()

I never used to watch the tee-vee. Now that I'm unemployed and living in a homeless shelter, I have plenty of time to watch the tee-vee. I've been missing out. The Office, Community, Heroes, Monk, Parks and Recreation... What other shows are worth watching? I don't like shows with laugh tracks, and I'm not watching Lost; I heard about the finale and was not impressed.

Cartoons are OK.

Being unemployed, you could relate to Good Times.

FX is the network with quite a few good shows - Sons of Anarchy, Justified, The Walking Dead. You kinda need to catch up with all the episodes you've missed in all these to know the characters and what's going on.

American Horror Story on AMC is ok too.

I really liked Breaking Bad. Is Sons of Anarchy like that?

I loved the first season Walking Dead. What's Justified about?

What about Trailer Park Boys?

I've never seen Breaking Bad, but I've heard good things about it. I expect it appeals to the same audience that would like Sons of Anarchy.

Justified is about a slightly renegade U.S. Marshall from Kentucky initially working in Miami that gets transferred back to Lexington, close to his hometown. Lots of stereotypical Kentucky stuff, unpaved county roads, moonshine, family feuds, etc. etc. Main character played by Timothy Olyphant (think "Hitman"), who I really like.

Don't know anyting about Trailer Park Boys.

I got really excited to see there were new Ren and Stimpy episodes, but shut the first one off after 10 minutes. When did they become openly gay?!

The new one is actually pretty funny. Still the same humor as before but more updated videos and less of them

I didn't watch a lot of TV for the past 10 years, and then caught up with a few things the past year or so.

The Wire is truly outstanding. It's a little hard to get into the first 3-4 episodes of Season 1, but once you do, it's the bomb.

Prison Break is like crack, incredibly addictive. It's lightweight compared to The Wire, but is exciting, endlessly clever, and just generally a lot of fun.

Dexter seasons 1-4 is excellent, although season 3 is a bit subpar. It has really slumped in seasons 5 and 6, and I don't expect a return to form. They've milked the plot dry and should have stopped after 4 seasons like Prison Break did.

I also like Justified, especially season 2. It's a well-written show with a lot of great characters. Sons of Anarchy is a fun show.

I keep hearing about The Wire, but I just assumed it's a cop drama. Not a fan of cop dramas. I like Monk because of the healthy dose of comedy in it.

Seasons 1 and 3 of Prison Break (y'know, the ones where they actually break out of prison) were great. Season 2 was OK, and Season four was just plain awful.

Dexter's great, but I've only been able to get the first couple seasons at the ol' shelter. I'm really considering saving money for a couple years to buy the DVDs.

I'll check those out.

I did see the new Beavis and Butthead episodes. Judge kept it true to form. They were really good. The Jersey Shore critiques are great.

I heard the Wire was supposed to be good, but I didn't really care for the first episode, and moved onto Boardwalk Empire.

The Sopranos is still my favorite crime series, though Breaking Bad and Sons of Anarchy are also good.

Each season of The Wire focuses on a different facet of the city of Baltimore.

Ugh. Pass.

Recent favorites would be The Shield, and the new Battlestar Galactica,,,

Also like Monk, it's an ok show, not great, but it's relaxing,,,

No, but I enjoyed the re-runs. It got all Prison Break-y towards the end of the show, though.

That is correct. Sorry, I got this and The Walking Dead reversed as far as what network they're on. The Walking Dead is on AMC.

WHOA! Look at all those knobs and dials!

I can't imagine what kind of fancy-pants moneybags would be able to own such a magnificent piece of technology.
