Fairfax County and Northern Virginia was more fun in the 1980s than it is right now. Today does not even come close.

I used to live right down the street from a 7-Eleven. On the weekends large group of teenagers would congregate there. None of them were looking to buy energy drinks.

Any teen who would have suggested taking a pack of energy drinks to a weekend party or get together probably would have gotten their ass beat.

It was more fun because you weren't old yet.

This was before all the fucking GD carpent bagging yankees arrived with the illegals in tow. If the fucking yankees leave and take the illegals to their haven states up north, Fairfax would be fun again.

Actually I was only in elementary school and would make frequent trips to the 7-Eleven for ice cream. I was too young to even think about buying alcohol.

I have to agree. Although Snapple has a good point, the more this place grows the more I hate it. You used to run into people you knew on a constant basis, but nowadays it's a rare occurrence. The traffic is horrible, a majority of the drivers are assholes, and there is actually less to do despite the immense growth and construction.

Considering 93% of the inhabitants of Northern Virginia were born outside the state, it doesn't take long to get "old" around here if you're part of the 7%.

I liked when you could bike past Herndon and you were in the countryside. Sterling Road and Route 28 were virtually deserted on weekend mornings.

This. When all you had to worry about was scoring beer for the night, it allows for some carefree living. Now you gotta worry about mortgages, taxes, kids, and all of that bullshit.

Ok, so there's all the sprawl but instead of blaming the "yankees" and Mexicans for all the county's problems, put the blame on the real culprit, CORPORATE AMERICA. After all, their choosing to move their company headquarters into Fairfax County is the foundation for all these population overcrowding problems we're seeing today not to mention everything getting pricier. Remove free trade, military industrial complex, union busting, corporatism, and political correctness and see what happens 10-20 years from now to the county.

I'd say in Nova its more the Federal government's fault.

The unchecked expansion of the fed gov't which in turn created an unchecked expansion of government contractors is mostly to blame for the traffic, overcrowding, and high cost of living.

And the fed gov't's refusal to secure the border and enforce immigration laws is to blame for all the illegal mexicans.

Lets cut the fed gov't by 50% and wee what happens in 10-20 years.

We used to hang out near the 7-Eleven at Gallows and Woodburn Road, in the woods that were there. We'd wait for the beer truck to pull into the lot. When the driver took the first load inside, we'd run over, grab a case off the truck, run like hell back to our bikes and split.

After the adrenaline rush wore off we would all settle in to a tree fort in Eakin Park and drink 'til the sun came up.

Those were the days man!

big liar

corporate america is "willing seller willing buyer". they can't sell shit if they are high priced: no purchases.

government makes trouble and bills whatever they want. and point the blame finger at whoever they want.

and there's no one worse at being a facist than today's democrats. they are nothing like yesterdays' democrats they are total facists that ignore every law in the book and threaten people.

" corporate america is "willing seller willing buyer". "

Boy do you need to do some serious studying unless you're a paid corporate predator troll.

"and there's no one worse at being a facist than today's democrats. they are nothing like yesterdays' democrats they are total facists that ignore every law in the book and threaten people."

That I agree with and would say the same for Republicans. Even Reagan wouldn't be allowed into today's Republican Party just like FDR wouldn't be allowed in today's Democratic Party.

"government makes trouble and bills whatever they want. and point the blame finger at whoever they want."

Government is who the majority votes for. They voted for it and they'll all pay for it.

Amen. Fairfax county is turning into a 3rd world shithole. It's dropping its position on the maps for higher incomes to places like Loudoun. I very much doubt it's seeming like such a great place for companies to relocate too at this point in time. The "Gatehouse crew" is turning the schools into a bunch of glorified daycare centers.

If you meant to say small companies otoh, then I agree. There's still Loudoun and Prince William counties for now.

Less fat chicks in the 80s. Now if you want to see hot chicks in shape you better join a gym and even then there are fat chicks sweating to the oldies. 80s girls also didnt go for the bull dyke hair cuts like women today.

The Northop-Grumman deal was struck several years back and then they moved here a few years ago. Based on today's position, I think it's becoming more unlikely that a company like N-G would go ahead with the move.

Just across the street, Exxon-Mobil will be gone in next April. Another $200+ million dollar property on the block. For rent, or for sale.

Ugh, the year is 2013 so it's still the 2010s. Asians have been here in growing proportions all through the 2000s and this decade. I don't see anything wrong with them. Many of them left their communist-leaning countries and made some good contributions to the county. True, they could do better but I don't understand what beef you have with Asians especially since a lot of the younger Asian women looking so good remind me of what American women looked more like in the 1980s long before obesity plagued this country.
