Millions set to lose jobless benefits..............

Now here's my take on this. Call me what you will but don't tell me she could'nt find a job in six months. Maybe not her dream job, but a job. Maybe not making 50K/year, but maybe 35K. I don't buy this shit any longer.

And so her answer is "I'm doing everything except for going out there and actually physically protesting. And I think I'm gonna get to that point." That's how you get a job lady. You go girl.

Why is it that people like this give me the impression that things should be handed to them. The time she spent applying for government handouts should have been spent looking for a job.

I'm tired of lazy-ass, non-motivated slackers using the economy as an excuse to not work. You do what you have to do to support yourself and your family.

There, I feel better.

There are benefits to being jobless, but they usually don't include getting paid. Such is life.

to pay them 20K a year to sit on their butts instead of paying 300K to build worthless military hardware and do worthless military studies. why spend 350 billion dollars on F-35's to create just 127K jobs?

In 1982 the unemployment rate was north of 10%. I was almost done with school and needed a summer job bad. I had applied for a position that I wasn't quite qualified for but wanted to prove I could do it. The employer said he'd like to hire me but with only an associates degree at that point he thought he could find better qualified candidates. Being desperate I told him right in the first interview that if he would take a chance on me I would be willing to work 2 weeks without pay and if I met expectations he could hire me then or let me go. I think it was 4 weeks before I got my first check and not only did he pay me for the first 2 weeks he set my salary $.25 per hour higher than what he had told me to begin with. Never been so proud of a quarter in my life.

You can make yourself stand out among the crowd if you try.

The woman in the article is 49 years old. Finding a job in your forties is hard enough; next year she'll be 50 - and no one wants to hire someone in their fifties. Age discrimination is alive and well - I've practiced it myself. That's the reality. It's especially hard in something like the IT field, where managers may be in their twenties. They don't want to hire Mom or Dad, even if their skill sets are up to date.

Also, you rarely get the chance to make your case face to face like mcsmack did,,,

You have to get your resume through a computerized HR program that may eliminate you for a wide variety of meaningless reasons,,,most jobs have to be applied for online,,,

many companies are not looking for the best and the brightest either, they're looking for cheap, good enough labor that fits their budget,,,

It was a better world when you could get a personal interview and represent yourself,,,

And Lloydster, people inside the beltway bubble have no clue,,,go to one of the states hit hard by the economy and see if you can get a job,,,

The problem with this country is too many people continue to live in dead cities like Detroit and Akron and Cleveland and bitch about the lack of opportunity. These people need to get off their asses and MOVE to areas with jobs. Detroit will never again be what it was in the 60s. The Steel Belt isn't coming back to Pennsylvania. Textile mills are never returning to South Carolina. Get the fuck over it, move to where there are better opportunities and get some fucking training.

Right on the money. I have a friend in the midwest whose stepson
(38 years old) recently got fired from a factory job for fighting
with a co-worker. He was able to prove wrongful termination but
found out he's eligible for unemployment so he's sitting on his
ass all day playing video games and looking at porn. He has no
desire to look for work until his unemployment checks are nearly
over. Three slops and a flop along with enough money for beer
and weed is all he wants. Needless to say, my friend is furious
but he can't do anything about it. Time to shut off the funds for
assholes like his stepson.

Why is it that they always start off big picture stories like this by telling one person's personal experiences. Are we supposed to believe that everyone is equally deserving, or that everyone is in such desparate straights? Also they never quite get around to telling the other side of the story. Those unemployment benefits do have to be paid for by SOMEONE. Either you are going to have to cut other government programs (meaning other people are going to lose their jobs or have their benefits cut) or you are going to have to raise taxes (in the case of unemployment benefits from those companies that are still employing people) or you are going to have to pass on those costs to future taxpayers by borrowing the money. They also never get around to telling you what the cascade effect would be if the payments weren't made.

This isn't an anti-saftey net rant. It is an anti-bad reporting rant.

You can only get unemployment checks for 6 months. While getting the checks you must prove you are actively looking for a job. Unemployment is shit pay and good luck having enough to pay for a car etc...

Where fuck do people get the idea that people on unemployment are driving BMW's and living luxury. They are not. Many are trying to get jobs but nobody will hire them, the age discrimination is job one case.

Have you tried getting a job in this economy?????? I have one friend who use to work as a TSI cleared programmer now he is riding as helper on a tow truck and can't support his four kids. You would think being cleared would have people running after him, but nope they only want young bucks.

KUDOS......fuck the haters --- that $.25 is worth a lot more than the increase in pay - it equals a victory in humbleness and being proactive that probably will be, or already has, paid off in ways only you will personally know...very cool.

Yes...it is SO EASY to MOVE and get some FUCKING TRAINING when you are already broke - brilliant! Why not give up the little you are receiving in your state to move to someplace where you are not in the system and it may take X amount of weeks/months to even receive any benefits at all - sure, the unemployed have SO many options, what the fuck are they doing?

Another post by someone who has never fell on hard times and does not know shit about overcoming any type of obstacle in their lives. When your time comes, it may not be financially, but it will happen in some shape or form...you will better understand the word EMPATHY. Until then, keep your ignorant ass quiet.
