It takes some sophistication, like Campari, after watching lame comedy you need a gradual incline to it, which takes a bit, but it will eventually come. Trust me.

I get British humor. I really do. I just don't see what's funny about a British sea hag dressing up like a black American stewardess and asking why someone needs to take Easy Cheese on a plane in an urban accent that I find offensive on several levels. British humor is supposed to be dry and high-brow. Tracy Ullman approaches sketch comedy with all the expertise of the Wayans brothers pretending to be white women.

Just because it's British doesn't mean it's sophisticated. That's like looking down on the British for not "understanding" Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Yes.

I love all kinds of comedy from satire, to slapstick, to stand-up. It's all about how well its done and how compelling and talented the performer is. Tracy Ullman is simply not funny. She may be a gifted actress, I'm unsure. But what she THINKS she has to offer the world is misguided.

Now let me praise her. She introduced us to two great things for which I will be forever grateful.

The first is 'The Simpsons'. Even at its worst is still one of the best written shows on television.

The second is the late Kirsty MacColl. As alluded to above, she covered MacColl's song "They Don't Know" and it was a hit single back in '83. Paul McCartney appeared in the video and it brought U.S. attention to a great singer/ songwriter relatively unknown to Americans.
