Cops vs. Military

Why is it that members of our military are more respected than cops? You always see people thanking the troops for their service, putting the yellow ribbons on the back of their cars, Veteran's Day, care packages, etc. But you never see that with cops. I am not hating on anyone I was just wondering why the military gets more respect than police officers. They perform similar duties and both face the possibility of dying on the job. You also never see days dedicated to police officers or discounts offered for their service.

Yeah, I've noticed this before, and Harry Tuttle summed it up. Though, there seem to be many places/people that lump military and police in the same category. Whether they hate authority figures, uniforms, devices of the government, etc. some don't distinguish between the two.


One thing that should be looked at more closely is PTSD in police officers, not just returning vets. Not so much if you are a police officer somewhere like Fauquier, but you know officers in DC or Baltimore have seen some traumatic shit.

Military works 24/7 and are sometimes deployed overseas for
years. The food usually sucks and you find yourself in very
strange places where there are no Dunkin Donuts.

Theres some comparisons between the two. Cops carry guns for a living, the military uses them for a living. Dont get me wrong being a cop is dangerous too just not as dangerous as a war zone.

But yea basically people hate cops because they want to be able to do whatever they want and not get caught.
