A forgotten classic that cuts very deep indeed. One of the saddest songs ever. An anthem for the lost souls of the modern age. That is to say, an anthem for you and me.

This guy was discovered only by chance, years after he died. They never recognized his genius while he was alive.

Your help never came
It's always the same
You are alone

All You Need is Love

a fundamentally sad song.

the singer recites all the things that are impossible to do,
and then asserts : all you need is love.

but he sings it sadly, with a great sense of loss, everything in his voice
telling us he does not have that love. it is not in him, or given to him.

meanwhile, the brass offers sardonic commentary, mocking the singer's pain.

ringo doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about in the extraneous commentary
tagged onto the end of this.

and i still cant get a fucking girlfriend.

And:

Gilbert O'Sullivan's Alone Again Naturally:

http://youtu.be/D_P-v1BVQn8

In a little while from now
If I'm not feeling any less sour
I promise myself to treat myself
And visit a nearby tower
And climbing to the top will throw myself off
In an effort to make it clear to who
Ever what it's like when you're shattered
Left standing in the lurch at a church
Where people saying: "My god, that's tough
She's stood him up"
No point in us remaining
We may as well go home
As I did on my own
Alone again, naturally

To think that only yesterday
I was cheerful, bright and gay
Looking forward to well wouldn't do
The role i was about to play
But as if to knock me down
Reality came around
And without so much, as a mere touch
Cut me into little pieces
Leaving me in doubt
Talk about God and His mercy
Or if He really does exist
Why did He desert me in my hour of need
I truly am indeed Alone again, naturally

It seems to me that there are more hearts
Broken in the world that can't be mended
Left unattended
What do we do? What do we do?

Alone again, naturally
Now looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears

And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul,
Couldn't understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start with a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever spoken
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day
Alone again, naturally
Alone again, naturally

An afternoon nostalgia
Television show
You spoke in silhouette
(but they couldn't name you)
Though the panel were very polite to you
Oh, but I remembered you
Friday nights, 1969
ATV - you murdered every line
Too old to be a child star
Too young to take leads
Four seasons passed
And they axed you
Nervous juvenile
(won't smile)
What became of you?
Did that swift eclipse
Torture you?
A star at eighteen
And then suddenly gone
Down to a few lines
In the back page
Of a faded annual

Oh, but I remembered you
I remembered you

Best part of this song:

Darkness imprisoning me
All that I see
Absolute horror
I cannot live
I cannot die
Trapped in myself
Body my holding cell

Landmine has taken my sight
Taken my speech
Taken my hearing
Taken my arms
Taken my legs
Taken my soul
Left me with life in hell

Kittie, FTW...

They'll always be one of my fav bands however, this song and the video are still bugging after all of these years. I remember in the early days, Metallica stated they would not be making videos. They wanted to live or die simply on the music itself and not play games with MTV and producing videos. Then "...And Justice For All" drops and they make a video. For "One".

Now the song is a masterpiece and the video still thrills. So, I feel they picked a great song for their first video even if it did lead to them becoming video whores later on. But, a part of me is still disappointed that they said, "No Videos!" and then made them anyway. Sell outs...

Send in the Clowns - Judy Collins

Makes me want to eat a bullet.

"Isn't it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air,
Where are the clowns?

Isn't it bliss?
Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move,
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns.

Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours.
Making my entrance again with my usual flair
Sure of my lines
No one is there.

Don't you love farce?
My fault, I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want
Sorry, my dear!
And where are the clowns
Send in the clowns
Don't bother, they're here.

Isn't it rich?
Isn't it queer?
Losing my timing this late in my career.
And where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns
Well, maybe next year."

MAD SEASON - RIVER OF DECEIT

Lyrics by Layne Staley
Music by Staley, McCready, Martin, Saunders

My pain is self-chosen
At least, so The Prophet says
I could either burn
Or cut off my pride and buy some time
A head full of lies is the weight, tied to my waist

The River of Deceit pulls down, oh oh
The only direction we flow is down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down

My pain is self-chosen
At least I believe it to be
I could either drown
Or pull off my skin and swim to shore
Now I can grow a beautiful shell for all to see

The River of Deceit pulls down, yeah
The only direction we flow is down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down

The pain is self-chosen, yeah
Our pain is self-chosen
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down
Down, oh down

Chris Christie - Expressway to Your Vote

At five o'clock, it's much too crowded. Much too crowded. Much too crowded. No more presidency for me.

Diamonds and Rust, originally by Joan Baez, but covered by Judas Priest to good effect.

That's ridiculous.

Sadly, she couldn't see the clown in Che Guevara.

Maybe that's why BioHazard dreams of suicide....

Aye, and surprisingly so given that it's about death.

I think you have to have been a Six Feet Under fan to find this one really depressing. For those who weren't, it was a great show and they played this over the final montage where every single character dies. Gutting.

Goddammit abelard, why the fuck would you reveal the ending? I know I'm a decade or so late, but I was trying to get into it.

Everybody dies, Ex-Dex, in the case of this show quite literally. Worth sticking it out, if only for the final episode. It's been years and I can scarcely think of it without tearing up.
