Obama Wants Payroll Tax Cuts- Republicans NO WAY!

Because Republicans DON'T WANT TAX CUTS! WTF???

(CNN) -- President Barack Obama on Wednesday challenged Republicans to "fight as hard for middle-class families as you do for those who are more fortunate," telling a Pennsylvania crowd to push Congress to extend the payroll tax cut enacted a year ago.

Obama met with a family in Scranton, the birthplace of Vice President Joe Biden, then spoke at a nearby high school in what will be a battleground state in next year's presidential election.

Sounding the populist themes of his re-election bid so far, Obama complained that congressional Republicans were out of touch with mainstream American support for his jobs bill that included an extension of the payroll tax cut.

Republicans are willing to continue with the cuts as long As its offset by spending cuts and you know the Dems will never go for that. Stalemate. Shocker.

It has nothing to do spending cuts but that's what the Republicans want to spin it as. The payroll tax cuts for the middle class are paid for by closing loopholes on payroll taxes for rich over $1 million dollars.

God forbid the rich would have to actually pay tax to make up the difference. Same old Republican fuck the poor and middle class mentality.

Republicans, who are seeking to blunt Democratic charges of favoring the rich over the middle class before next year's vote, rolled out their own plan to cover the cost of extending the payroll tax cuts.

Under the Republican plan unveiled on Wednesday, the tax cut extension would be funded mainly by reducing the number of federal workers and extending a pay freeze for them for three more years. The plan would achieve smaller savings by tightening some eligibility requirements on unemployment and food stamp benefits.

Sounds like a good plan re the government workforce numbers. If the eligibility requirements for foodstamps included "citizenship or green card required" that would probably help a lot.

Yeah, these MSM drones are always stunned by the latest "revelation". Again, you can look at increasing taxes on the wealthy once you make some significant spending cuts - but if you aren't willing to cut spending now then why in the hell would raising taxes make that any more likely?

Same old tired MSM mantra and spin, same old result. But hey, let's watch what happens if they elect a majority of Democrats again - we will get taxed out the asshole and they will STILL increase spending. Not that the MSM will cover that issue.

I think Obama is essentially worthless, but the Repubs really need to stop making the fed. worker a scapegoat. I'm all for reducing the size of the federal workforce, as it would be very easy to do, and be painless as well, but freezing fed. pay for 3 more years is a non-starter.

Pay freezes are easily worked around. Just look at the Whitehouse - Obama announced a pay freeze and then 75% of the folks working there got re-classifications on their jobs and made something like a 60% increase overall. If pay freezes are a non-starter, then those government employees who don't like it are free to find another job - good luck with that. I would be careful in whatever you think "drawing the line in the sand" looks like.

Come on Registered Voter. This whole Republican philosophy of screwing over the middle class and poor for the 1%'ers is complete BULLSHIT!

The rich need to pay their fair share! Even some of the super rich agree.

Laying off federal workers so the rich can keep their tax cuts??? That's the GOP plan?? WTF???

Republicans need to take a serious look at their party.

This is one of the dumbest misinformed political statements Ive seen on here in a bit.

40% of their yearly interest isnt their fair share?

The super rich agree? Oh really well how come guys like Buffet and Russel Simmons who are saying that owe the feds 100s of millions and in Buffets case 1 billion dollars in back taxes? The IRS takes donations if they really felt that way they can send donations.

And no republicans arent trying to screw everyone else. Obama attached the cuts to a bunch of spending he knew they would never go for so that he could say oh look they dont want it. Its just typical Washington politics. He wants to just keep spending spending spending saying oh look I created a job and it only took a million dollars to do it. Even the congressional budget reviews are calling his past stimulus plans a disaster

There would be no need for layoffs. The Federal workforce as a whole is relatively old. There are now and will continue to be plenty of them ready to retire. If they wanted to accelerate the rate of retirement, they could offer buyouts as an incentive to leave. Easy. Painless.

Nobody stops to think about the efficacy of the damn thing. (Payroll tax cut) I remember the democrats giving Bush shit saying that his proposed tax cuts for the middle class would be just enough to buy a muffler. Obama comes along and puts an extra 20 dollars in the average workers pocket per week and all of the sudden he is a fucking genius. Then you couple that with the $3000.00 employer tax credit for new hires and is it any wonder he has created exactly 0 jobs.I know of no one who has taken advantage of that worthless incentive.

By the time last weeks unemployment number is revised it will be pushing 410,000.At the time when retailers are gearing up for Christmas.

And now he's decided to "give up" trying to win the support of the white working class? I think the man is genuinely cracking up.

This is NOT a payroll tax cut. He just wants to extend the benefit into 2012 that we've had in 2011. All it means is that the Social Security Deduction on the employee's side would stay at 4.2% instead of going back to 6.2%, where it has been for many years. Considering the shape that Social Security is in, does anyone really think that this should be a really good thing for our President to do? No. Or, hell no. The small amount of extra money that one gets in their check is not going to do anything substantial with such a small amount of money.

Instead, Obama should be thinking of ways to get fuel costs down. Why is it that a gallon of gasoline now costs $1.50 - $1.80 more per gallon than when he got into office? It's not just our weekly commutes being more expensive due to higher gas costs. However, everything we buy has jumped up in price because of the higher fuel costs. Food his higher, airline flights are higher, shipping items is higher. The energy policy of Mr. Obama, or should I say, lack there of, needs to change. He needs to consider re-reviewing his opinion of opening up more drilling for oil. We have the resources in the ground that are ready to be drawn out. It's just a matter of loosening some of the heavy regulation to permit this to occur.

I'd rather see my Social Security withholdings go back to 6.2%, plus pair it with additional cuts in services and sizes of government agencies. More government and larger government is not the answer. Opening up some of the grips on allowing companies to get off the ground and hire people should be the focus.

Sadly, though, a large part of the Liberal population will never see the logic in this.

Using this logic on the Bush tax cuts seems fair,,,

We'll just restore the old rate on earners making over a million,,,

right?

Yea lets just use your logic and take every dollar that rich people have and give it away all our problems will be solved right?

Right,,,

Because going back to the old tax code will take every dollar the "rich"
make,,,

Believe me they have more than enough loop holes to make up for the whopping 3% increase in taxes,,,

The payroll tax goes to one thing and one thing only - social security. If we really want to be taking money out of social security in the extension of what was supposed to be temporary to begin with, then support the president.

But the bottom line is this extension is no different than President Bush's rebate checks. It's an election year gimmick that doesn't provide any real relief for the middle class and hurts social security. It's a bad idea.

Right... because if give tax cuts to only the rich more jobs will be created. What a crock shit!
