Apple's newest gee-whiz thang is "Siri", a web-based voice recognition application that addresses queries by the user of an iPhone like "Where can I get a pizza right now?" or "Are there any clothing stores within walking distance?", etc.

Ask it something like "Where is the nearest abortion clinic", however, and it barfs and says it can't find any.

It apparently uses standard search engines to find the results that it then chews on before telling you so, of course, it can find anything those search engines can find.

I think the shit is going to hit the fan about this one - I imagine Apple has just lost a significant portion of their "good vibes" with their female customers and potential customers, among others.

Siri is pretty cool, but I find the real benefit is that I can text and send email while I am driving. I can't get into the habit of talking into my phone whenever I want to search for something. Good ol fashioned typing is just fine for that. But it is useful when I'm on the road and can just say "Text Dad. I'll be ten minutes late."

I think the 4S's best feature, by far, are the location-based reminders.
