What a LOL.

So - let's say we can agree that something happened in Egypt - who is calling it a "success" at this point? I think the jury is still out, and while Mubarak may be gone, I don't know that what has taken his place is a "win". So yeah, these results should be taken with a grain of salt - as usual high minded liberals attempting to justify that their news is the only news.

...Among other topics, New Jerseyans were asked about the outcome of the uprisings in North Africa and the Middle East this past year. While 53% of New Jerseyans know that Egyptians were successful in overthrowing the government of Hosni Mubarak, 21% say that the uprisings were unsuccessful, and 26% admit they don’t know. Also, 48% know that the Syrian uprising has thus far been unsuccessful, while 36% say they don’t know, and 16% say the Syrians have already toppled their government.

But the real finding is that the results depend on what media sources people turn to for their news. For example, people who watch Fox News, the most popular of the 24-hour cable news networks, are 18-points less likely to know that Egyptians overthrew their government than those who watch no news at all (after controlling for other news sources, partisanship, education and other demographic factors). Fox News watchers are also 6-points less likely to know that Syrians have not yet overthrown their government than those who watch no news.

"Because of the controls for partisanship, we know these results are not just driven by Republicans or other groups being more likely to watch Fox News," said Dan Cassino, a professor of political science at Fairleigh Dickinson and an analyst for the PublicMind Poll. "Rather, the results show us that there is something about watching Fox News that leads people to do worse on these questions than those who don’t watch any news at all." ...

Yeah, it is called loading the answers and then using that to somehow validate your results. What a load of shit.

If you can’t model the past, where you know the answer pretty well, how can you model the future? - William Happer Cyrus Fogg Brackett Professor of Physics Princeton University

The Off-Topic forum has been proving this notion for years.

I doubt you’re a idiot, RV, so I’ll give you the benefit thereof.
The Egyptians successfully overthrew the Mubarak government
by removing it from office, wresting governmental control from it, etc.
The Egyptian’s success in deposing Mubarak is not qualitative.
He’s out of power = they succeeded. It was a straightforward,
unambiguous question that FAUX SPEWS viewers could not answer.

That’s an awfully weak defense of the mouth-breathing,
knuckle-dragging FAUX SPEWS audience (including you,
assumedly). I pity their ignorance.

I watch an hour of nightly news from ABC and NBC, O'Reilly
on Fox, and whatever interests me in between. On Sunday
morning I watch lamestream talk shows and again, whatever
interests me. So now if I watch Fox it means I'm clueless?

Try Googling this and see what you get:

"Fairleigh Dickinson"+SOROS

Clue: 1,380,000 hits. Guess where Georgie's been sending his money?

Koch sits on the Board of Directors of the Prostate Cancer Foundation and has contributed $41 million to the Foundation, including $5 million to a collaborative project in the field of nanotechnology.[28] Koch is the eponym of the David H. Koch Chair of the Prostate Cancer Foundation, a position currently held by Dr. Jonathan Simons.
In 2007, he contributed $100 million to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to help fund the construction of a new 350,000-square-foot (33,000 m2) research and technology facility to serve as the home of the David H. Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research.[29]
Koch contributed $20 million to Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. The building he financed was named the David H. Koch Cancer Research Building.[30]
Koch contributed $30 million to the Memorial Sloan–Kettering Cancer Center in New York[31]
Koch contributed $25 million to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston to establish the David Koch Center for Applied Research in Genitourinary Cancers[32]
Koch contributed $15 million to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell Medical Center[33]
Koch contributed $5 million to the House Ear Institute, in Los Angeles, to create a center for hearing restoration[27]
Koch contributed $25 million to the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City[34]

In July 2008, Koch pledged $100 million over 10 years to renovate the New York State Theater in the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts (now called the David H. Koch Theater),[35] and has pledged $10 million to renovate the outdoor fountains at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.[36]
Koch has been a trustee of the American Ballet Theater for 25 years[37] and has contributed more than $6 million to the theater.[38]

Koch contributed $7 million to the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) show Nova,[39] and is a contributor to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., including a $20 million gift to the American Museum of Natural History, creating the David H. Koch Dinosaur Wing and a contribution of $15 million to the National Museum of Natural History to create the new David H. Koch Hall of Human Origins, which opened on the museum's 100th anniversary of its location on the National Mall on March 17, 2010.[40]
Koch also financed the construction of Deerfield Academy's $68 million Koch Center for mathematics, science and technology,[41] and was named the first and only Lifetime Trustee.[41]
Koch gave $10 million to the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory[42] where he was honored with the Double Helix Medal for Corporate Leadership for supporting research that, "improves the health of people everywhere."[43]

Pretty superficial questions. Mubarak is out of power in Egypt, but it's the same government led by the military and secret service. That's why there's still mass protests ongoing in Egypt.

I don't even know why FOX news is still using the old format of "spin something so it's what people want to hear." That's just dumbing down their audience more and making them sound like a bunch of morons.

It's shooting the FOX News audience in the head.

I've never understood people's obsession with Fox News. Who gives a crap what they say, there are plenty of other news options out there if you don't like them. Aren't liberals always telling us to be tolerant of others or does it only apply when to other liberals?

I understand liberals obsession with Fox. It's because they know
the big three can't control news content anymore and it breaks
their heart. I really get a charge out of libs who insist that
conservatives only watch Fox and nothing else. Stupid.

No, you douchenozzles are fully plugged into the nutjob
echo chamber. WND, CSN, and Drudge, are all legitimate
news outlets in your reverberating little world. And,
let's not forget your puppet masters of the radio:
Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck, Levin, et al. It's sad, really,

Again, who cares? Perhaps they are sick of people wasting their time with what they see on MSNBC. And I know you didn't bring it up, but the same goes for the whole Soros/Koch brothers thing. I couldn't care less about either of them and where they spend their money. People are going to watch what they want regardless of what anybody says to them.

Nice twist on a headline with your subject line. Didn't notice the part of the article that stated "Viewers of
cable news on MSNBC are the most likely to think the protestors are Republicans" didja? Didn't think so. It was below the first paragraph.

All of you idiots need to realize you are arguing over what is probably someone's doctoral thesis.

The population of New Jersey (which is who the poll is talking about, not the entire US) is 8,791,894. Undergrad enrollment at F-D is 8900. Coincidence? I doubt it. But what I doubt more is that the publishers of this poll left the campus to take it. 612???? Out of almost 9 million people to chose from? And my goodness but they went all out over Snookie with 711. I suppose that's bigger news up that way actually.

The Fairleigh Dickinson University poll of 612 adults statewide was underwritten by
WFDU-FM Radio and conducted by telephone using both landlines and cell phones
from Oct. 17 through Oct. 23, 2011, and has a margin of error of +/-3.5 percentage
points.

The Fairleigh Dickinson University poll of 711 registered voters statewide was

through April 4, 2011, and has a margin of error of +/-4 percentage points.

Everyone wants to be right and no one wants to be wrong......understood.

But to base an argument on a college newsletter just to prove yourself superior to others?

Might want to rethink that strategy.

This was a decided outcome with handpicked information to back it up...........you know....like a thesis?

Clearly not, Greeny. Dr. Peter Woolley & Dr. Dan
Cassino, the gentlemen named at the top of the press
release, are Professor of Comparative Politics and
Assistant Professor of Political Science, respectively.
PublicMind is a polling enterprise within Fairleigh
Dickinson. The questions asked & the response rates
are right there in the release.

Are you familiar with statistical sampling, Greeny?
Seriously, use ‘the google’ to learn about what you
speak before you spout off like an ignorant ass.

If you need to dispute a scientifically valid,
unbiased survey with your nonsensical opinion,
go right ahead, Greeny. The thing is, you’re
wrong on every count.

FAUX SPEWS leaves its viewers less informed than
before they tuned-in. One might even say that
FAUX SPEWS mis-informs its audience.

Liberals only believe in being tolerant of others/freedom of speech/equal rights ect when you agree with them. If you dont see things the same way youre a racist homophobe. Or in the case of Herman Cain you get accused of being paid by republicans because liberals dont understand how any one who is black can be a conservative

Studies show people in the South have lower IQ's than Northeners. White, southern male=republican base=fox news audience=ignorant, unimformed rednecks. I hope you conservatives know that people who don't identify with democrats can even see the absolute bias of Faux news. For me, it is part of my nightly dose of comedy. Just like Herman Cain proved, you dumb conservatives automatically criticize Obama even if you have no idea what you are talking about. If the topic was, "Do you agree with how Obama has handled Christmas celebrations in the U.S." repubs would be wrong. Herman Cain- "No, and here's why. I don't think he truly identified what Santa looks like, and exactly how Santa's route looks. Uhhh.......................................................................................................................................let me think........................................................................................Obama.......................................wants Santa Clause to go to the poor kids houses first, correct? See, that's wrong, Santa needs to go to the rich kids houses first, and even if he runs out before getting to the poor kids, o well, the rich kids may share with the poor kids, am I right?

Michelle Bachmann on a question about what she would do concerning North Korea-"Well the question isn't really what I would do, but what Obama has or has not done. North Korea, in fact, just last week, rolled tanks into Japan and wiped out a small African country, but nobody is talking about it." Interviewer-"Umm this statement is completely false." Bachmann-"Well Obama should have imposed sanctions." Interviewer-"He did." Bachmann-" Well, Obama shouldn't have imposed sanctions."

Other Repubs-Fuck it, lets just make it like the 50's were again, good times.

Sure am. Learned all about it when I read where MSNBC leads people to believe Occupy is a Republican movement.

Which part of YOUR link did you bother to read? Just the part about how terrible Fox is?

If you don't like Fox...........don't watch it. Is that so hard to understand? It's ALL a "production" designed to please their viewers.

I'm spouting? Beats the shit out of flat out lying. Which you can't seem to stop doing to prove your point. Did you get fired from Fox or something?

And that's your opinion. Great country aint it? I'll agree that it may be unbiased, but it sure as hell isn't much of a cross section now is it?

Not to mention you didn't bother shooting down how the poll only took place in JERSEY dipshit.

You from Jersey? I'm not from Jersey. The people of Jersey aren't even as rabid as you are, Weasely.

You've proved me wrong when I doubted your stupidity,
Greeny. What does the foregoing have to do w/statistical
sampling? Not a wit, just like you.

Lying? What have I lied about, Greeny?

Again, you are wrong. Not opinion, fact.
Do you know the difference, Greeny?

Who said anything about a 'cross section'?
BTW, I'd be willing to bet NJ mouth-breathing,
knuckle-draggers (aka, FAUX SPEWS viewers) are
better or worse informed than others of their
ilk nationwide.

> So? Are you afraid you'll catch something?

You can't catch stupid, so I'm good, Greeny.

Its hysterical that someone trying to be an intellectual elitist can only resort to name calling showing their own stupidity.

I'd laugh at FAUX SPEWS, too...if didn't make me so sad to know that the mouth breathing, knuckle-draggers believe everything FAUX SPEWS tells them.
