I'm a sub in middle and elementary school. These past two years I've noticed that many of the kids say "it's mines". Is this a cultural thing.

Has anyone else noticed people saying "mines" when they mean mine?

her's our's etc..they just think or say it cause of those..and i know some adults who still say that. plus its cute

Axe you mean? But yes, this is a question that has confused me for years. I have nothing against anyone, but we do live in a diverse area, and I've heard this "axe a question" used a lot. Is there an origin for this somewhere, just like the previous poster wrote, an honest answer without hate please.

I was adopted by a lesbian couple so, it is completely grammatically correct for me to say, "I'm going to see my moms."

I will try to remember all those listed above but not sure what good it will do me when the guy who just ran into my car speaks spanish, farsi, chinese, korean or some west african dialect.

Irish in Ireland say that. It is called a "loaner word", like they say "youse" for "you are", it is OK, don't get all bent out of shape over that. Be greatful they don't curse.

This has nothing to do with African vernicular english, no one and i mean no one I have met while in Africa talks like this. Its just plain laziness.

Accents. The Irish say "aks" or "ax" and many other English speaking countries pronounce words differently.

The Irish say "axe"? Funny, I go to an Irish pub alot and the employees are mostly from Ireland. Ive never heard a single one pronounce "ask" as "axe". If they say "axe" they are talking about the thing you cut wood with.

The only people I hear do that is blacks. Exspecially Al Sharpton!

Perhaps it's a regional accent because I've heard Irish down my pub say "ax". What I can't stand is the phrase "what he be?", it cut's through me like a fucking knife.

But they do use "fucker" as almost every other word!

All the possessive pronouns end in an 's/z' sound except for mine. If English were consistent in anyway, mine should be mines (or perhaps Ises).

Why do people keep saying "lots of racist comments in here"? They are stating examples of phrases used by black people. I don't understand where your finding racism in this. It seems you are looking for something or someone to call racist. And the person who said everyone in here is a racist hick? Why don't you look at a map of the populations of African Americans state by state. People up north and in the Midwest don't have nearly as much interaction with blacks. Hard to have a negative image of blacks when the only ones you see are on tv. If you had to teach a class in an inner city school down south you might have a better idea of where these comments are coming from.
