American Censorship Day: Nov 16, 2011
Posted by: Cary ()

Fairfax Underground is participating in American Censorship Day by "blacking out" our logo and asking users to carefully consider why their elected representatives would want to take away the internet freedoms we've all taken for granted.

Please familiarize yourself with the following material today as Congress is doing the same. Please contact your federal representatives and make it clear that you will NOT vote for their re-election should they support this measure.

Also consider signing this official White House petition: https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions/!/petition/stop-e-parasite-act/SWBYXX55

I think the bill is a good idea and sent a message to my congressional peeps in support of it.

Just look at what the lack of censorship did for Usenet. Or the off topic area here.

Embrace Big Brother. He is your fiend. I mean friend.

Fairfax Underground has always been a free forum for the expression of ideas.

Kudos to Cary for participating in American Censorship Day, and thank you for Fairfax Underground.

This is a genuine issue that all FXU users should care about.

I have contacted my elected officials.

Most people don't realize that the Music Industry and Motion Picture industries are tiny little industries compared with the size of the economy. So what they're basically asking for is the entire internet be turned upside down to increase their profits.

Don't let all the highfalutin' rhetoric about jobs, and threats to our economy fool you; this is purely about the record and movie industries looking to improve their bottom line by decreasing everybody's freedom and basically screwing up the internet (which they hate).

Call your representative, write them a letter (U.S. Mail) about your opposition. Don't tweet, or sign an online petition, or start a facebook group. Do something that take 5 minutes of effort and will have 100x the effect.
