Why don't we say "Happy X-Giving?"

I mean all these Atheists throw around "Merry Xmas" all the time. Personally I think it doesnt make any sense. Oh, and Happy X of July too.

Because the "X" character in "Xmas" is not the letter "X", but the Greek letter "chi" - "Χ". Chi is the first character in "ΧΡΙΣΤΟΣ" which is the Greek word for "Christ", so it's an abbreviation for the "Christ" part of "Christmas", not some atheist conspiracy, as you posit.

Saying "Christ" is in Christmas is actually the bigger conspiracy. His name wasn't "Christ", he wasn't born on December 25, and most of the holiday is based on pagan Norse traditions and American consumerism. There's hardly any "Christ" at all in Christmas. How many people are eager to get up at 4AM on Black Friday to read the Bible?

I love how Fox attacks people for saying Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas. Ignoring the fact, of course, that Holidays is derived from Holy Days.

A great deal of the Christmas debate seems like nonsense when viewed from the long term historical perspective. As some have mentioned Christmas is essentially a co-opted Roman holiday that took on Nordic pagan overtones and has since been thoroughly commercialized. The use of "X" or "chi" as a representative for Christ has very long historical roots and the term "holiday" does have religious origins. The problem is that we are not looking at these from a historical perspective but instead from a modern social one.

"Christians" like to view December 25 as a major Christian holiday with secular overtones that people of other faiths can also participate in. They view the use of Xmas as a cheapening of the holiday, and they see X-mas and the use of "happy holidays" as an attempt to sever the religious connection.

I have no problem with someone wishing me a heartfelt "happy holidays" "happy Chanukah", "Ramahanakwanzmas" or whatever. Where I do have a problem is with companies that seem perfectly willing to cash in on the Christmas holiday directing its employees to say "happy holidays" as a way not to offend anyone. It's hypocritical.

About 4 in 10 Americans attend church regularly. Yet we are a "Christian Nation."

Bump from Adult Swim last night

Dear Retailers,

Over the last fifty years I've watched as you put Christmas decorations up earlier and earlier. This year it began shortly after Labor Day.

I appreciate hustle, but it's getting out of control.
I'm an old school mother fucker, so you kids knock this shit off until after thanksgiving.

Ho Ho Ho,

Santa Claus

How many of these "Xmas whiners" actually go to church on Christmas Day?

When you use the "X" you mean criss-cross without the cross, criss mas, and also the "X" was a crucifiction sign in olden times so your still keeping with the general Christian theme. That's no big deal.
