Main controller dead on my Chrysler T&C

Hello,
My 1997 Chrysler T&C all of a sudden failed to start earlier this week. Chrysler technician says he cannot even run diagnostic test as the main controller module is dead. Replacement job would cost $1,300+ (Part is $1,000). They say the module is not something that can be swapped out as every module has VIN# hard coded. They also say there may be additional modules that might be f__ked up by the now-dead main controller. There is obviously no way to tell until a new main controller is hooked up. How probable is it that a failing main controller causes other modules to fail? The tech obviously don't want to answer. Once I give them a green light, that would be a point of no return. I just have to cross my fingers hoping there will be no more issue to be found...

By the way, it's an 11 YEAR OLD PIECE OF SHIT MINIVAN!!!!
Way past time to buy a new one. According to Kelly Blue Book, it's got a trade-in value of about $2,500. I wouldn't spend one more dime on it. I would tow that piece of shit into CarMax and get something newer (preferably Japanese).
