In my profession everyone says thats line of code is retarded , thats a gay way to use that collection, your code looks like shit etc...

Are these words now off limits? I know maybe fag but retarded? I said something was retarded on another message board and there was a like a platoon of people responding how it is inapropriate.

What the hell.

Retarded is a medical term, like dwarfism. I don't know why it's okay to call a little person a dwarf but it's not okay to call someone who has retardation retarded.

Retarded is OK as a description, there is sometimes no other word. All people with down syndrome are retaarded but not all retarded people have down syndrome.

"You're retarded" or calling someone a "retard" is not cool if they actually are mentally handicapped, but if they are a normal person who is just being stupid, these terms have always seemed appropriate.
