WASHINGTON – Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Attorney General Eric Holder are opposing a Senate Republican effort that would prohibit the United States from prosecuting terror suspects in federal court.
Panetta and Holder sent a letter to Senate leaders saying the measure would deprive them of a potent weapon in the fight against terrorism and increase the risk of terrorists escaping justice and putting innocent lives in danger.
Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire has offered an amendment to a spending bill for the Justice Department and several other Cabinet agencies.

Amazingly, you did not post the whole article. You know, the part where they want to trials to take place, but just not on US soil may have been an important part to point out.

You have the integrity of a digleberry on Obama's asshair.

I think it's disgusting and cowardly, but this is not new. I blame both parties for the continuation of this shameful Guantanamo chapter in our justice system history. The Democrats, as usual, failed to make a stand on this a couple years ago when they passed a similar law to prevent Guantanamo detainees from being incarcerated stateside.

Yes lets bring terrorists state side so they are closer to their targets and will be set free on american soil if so much as a mistrial happens. Why not spend millions on a civil trial that could expose intelligence sources and classified information instead of having a secure military tribunal overseas.

Are you really that stupid. Its a fact that its more expensive. Its a fact that the rules of evidence are much more restrictive. Its a fact that if they are found not guilty they are free to go at that very second. Its a fact that local police do not enforce immigration laws and would not be able to even detain them for that in many places. Its a fact many appeals will happen and have to be herd over even the legitimacy of that court to try them in the first place. Its a fact that the courts have enough cases already and the last thing they need is to add on these trials which will take at minimum months.

They have no business in civil court. 99 percent of them arent arrest in the US. They are picked up over seas or on the battle field. They do not belong in civil court. I know actual facts are scary since they disprove everything you believe

At this point I say let them have their trials. Go ahead and try them in Federal court in NY City and see how it goes down. No over the top OT for cops, just provide increased security for the court and go for it. It will be interesting to see the result.

EDIT: What will be more fun to watch is the Federal government lose all their cases based on lack of evidence.
