Reminds me of the old SNL skit where it's supposed to be a community affairs program talking about rape support groups and about a minute in you realize they are talking rape support groups for the rapists.

These are the people the Democrats are wrapping their arms around. This should do wonders for the Democrats getting the soccer moms to lean their way. This gets better and better day by day. By Christmas, the whole country will see this lunacy for what it is and their are plenty of soundbites from Democrats praising them. Thanks for the free negative ads dems!

How fucking typical of you looser assholes to not tell the whole story.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Sun has invited participants in the Occupy Baltimore protest to submit occasional articles describing their experiences, ideas and goals. This one, from Baltimore resident Jenny Gaeng, provides one protester's perspective on a memo circulated at the protest that drew criticism for apparently suggesting that any allegations of sexual assault at the encampment be handled internally and that victims not call police.
"Well, it’s finally happened. Occupy Baltimore, the 100-person occupation fighting valiantly to stay above water, has made the national news. (In your face, D.C.) We're all over the blogosphere and the countrywide radar … for creating a sexual offense policy that doesn't recommend reporting assault to the police.
The problem is, it's not true. The policy in question was drafted by an ad hoc security committee during the beginning of our occupation in McKeldin Square, and that team has been almost entirely replaced in the weeks since. It was barely even discussed, and never ratified, by our General Assembly. In fact, it was basically forgotten until a right-wing blogger came around to dig through our trash, looking for a juicy weakness to exploit."
The fact that this type of action was even considered by these lunatics says enough about how far out of touch they are. It was discussed and that is not in dispute.
Phew, thanks for posting that. For a moment there Alias had totally me convinced that these protests had nothing to do with the economy and were basically just a bunch of criminals demonstrating their thirst for sexual violence.
Hardly. Discussing how to handle potential problem/issues
is the hallmark of a healthy, considerate community. The
fact that they decided against the proposed policy of
exluding the police is the story, and a good one at that.
LOL. So, it would be healthy and considerate to discuss putting the rape victims in concentration camps? It's one way to handle a potential problem, riight?
Your lunacy is hilarious.
Isn't that the way KBR handled complaints in Afghanistan? Wow, that was such a good plan - not reporting sexual abuse to the authorities huh. In light of all that, it seems even more stupid to think these people are planning on hanging out long enough that they have to come up with rules to deal with what should be normal decency and standard behavior.
Like, "hey, you got assaulted, call the police" wouldn't be a normal response?
LOL these folks are the lefties at their finest moment. Watch this one blow up in their face come Halloween.
Oakland and Atlanta are going to start keeping the areas clear and cite sanitary issues. A couple of cities will put up with their BS, but as time goes on, and overtime and other money is expended for dealing with them (that these places are short of in any case) they will end up doing more harm than good. When the news starts talking about the costs being paid to deal with the ding dongs it will be clear they are doing nothing useful. Again, it will backfire in the end.
I doubt it, but we'll have to compare notes sometime
in the future. Meanwhile, the rapidly expanding income
gap in this country is garnering greater attention everyday.
And really, that's the point of all these protests: To get
people thinking about why middle-class income growth has
slowed while the income growth rate for the top 1% has exploded;
why these supposed 'job creators' are't creating any job, even
while their bank accounts expand exponetially; and, why the Republican
Party believes that government policies should be changed to ensure
ever more favorable outcomes for the 1%.
I am pretty sure if you poll the Republican base, they are all in support of a 3-5% higher tax rate on folks making over $1M/yr. Also so that capital gains are taxed at a higher rate after the first $250K or $500K or something like that.
Those are easy ones - and would likely garner a LOT of support if the Democrats put them out in some coherent form that didn't include Harry Reid or Pelosi spewing BS at the same time.
They don't - the problem comes when they get to national office and the party leaders tell them to toe the line or they get no funding for their election campaigns. Then they all sing the same tune.
I would vote for a decent independent voice, but the political system is rigged.
I see. The Republican Party base doesn't vote for
politicians whose #1 priority is coddling the rich,
they vote for politicians whose #1 priority is
maintaining their own power, which is accomplished
more easily by coddling the rich, who then contribute
to re-election campaigns.
Thanks for clearing that up. I feel SO much more warmly
toward the Republican Party now!
The folks who vote for Democrats do the same thing. The Democrats do the same things once they get in to office - the national leaders tell them how to vote, and 9 out of 10 of them do exactly what they are told - not always the way the voters intended by any means. Voting your conscience means nothing anymore in Congress. Why do you think Obama voted against raising the debt ceiling as a Senator, then had to apologize for doing it when he wanted them to raise the debt ceiling.
No, I 'get it'.
When you vote Republican, you vote to support what the party leaders in Washington support: Income inequality, demagoguing the poor & the powerless, employing social issues as wedges to divide people, raping the land, dirtying the air & water, busting unions, fomenting class warfare, ensuring that the have-mores keep getting more and more, etc.
Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Again, you show your utter stupidity. Nuff said.
The Democrats are the same ilk, just with a different label. They just cater to different RICH, special interests. You think all these policies have been implemented and maintained over the last 30 years just by Republicans? LOL.
The funny part is, your list of laundry there are the issues being used by the LEFT to divide the country. The only issue the folks on the (far) right generally bring up is abortion, and spending too much in the government. The only ones fomenting class warfare are the folks on the left. As far as unions go - the left has been pushing rule changes for years to make it increasingly easy for unions to form - and yet they don't. Now, with the budget crisis going on all over the country, the unions were unwilling to budge until they brought the negotiations to a head. Now they are acting like victims (of their own stupidity) and the only ones really paying attention are the Obama sycophants - the folks in the middle, and the others who don't get their benefits fully paid for by their employers (see 90% of the general workforce) just see the union folks as a bunch of whiners since they now have to pay some small portion of their health care and retirement funds.
As usual, the left projects their issues as something wrong with the right.
In the end, both sides play the middle against each other, and do everything they can to keep their (rich friends) base intact. It is just a question of which side of the rich you want to support - but they all try to make as much money as they can on the backs of the common folks. If you don't understand that, then you really have no place in the argument.
"Controversial" wording from the original phamphlet
Posted by: Les ()
Date: October 29, 2011 11:27AM
Nothing wrong here.
"Though we do not encourage the involvement of the police in our community, the survivor has every right and the support of Occupy Baltimore, to report the abuse to the appropriate law enforcement."
Here is the pamphlet in full:
As the Security Committee of Occupy Baltimore, we release this statement to ensure the safety of our newly forming, delicate yet strong community.
Sexual abuse and assault are dehumanizing acts for the survivor as well as the abuser. It strips people of their right to safety, dignity, and respect. All of these basic values embody many of the intentions behind Occupy Baltimore. As a vibrant community, we recognize and give power to these values and the rights of survivors.
Sexual abuse or assault at Occupy Baltimore is in violation of our values, and will not be tolerated. It is an explicit policy of Occupy Baltimore to prohibit abuse by any member of the community upon another person. Violation of this policy will result in the abuser no longer being welcome at Occupy Baltimore.
Though we do not encourage the involvement of the police in our community, the survivor has every right and the support of Occupy Baltimore, to report the abuse to the appropriate law enforcement.
Reporting Procedure Any member of the Occupy Baltimore community who believes he/she/they have been the victim, or if you are aware of, or suspect sexual abuse taking place, are encouraged to immediately report the incident to the Security Committee.
Point person for dealing with these situations will be Koala Largess. ... Survivors of Sexual Abuse will be given the support, resources, and assistance needed for their emotional and physical health.
Anti-Retaliation
The Occupy Baltimore prohibits retaliation against any member, survivor, or outside person who reports in good faith a complaint of an abuser or who participates in any related inquiries. False accusations of sexual abuse in bad faith can have serious consequences for those who are wrongly accused.
Occupy Baltimore prohibits making false and/or malicious sexual abuse allegations, as well as providing false information during an inquiry. Anyone who violates any part of this policy will not be welcome at Occupy Baltimore.
This woman was raped and robbed at the Occupy Baltimore rally.
A spokesperson for the group had this to say, "This is a personal dispute and people actively need to go through mediation. We have a security team that actively deals with these situations."
