Whats your favorite meal from Cracker Barrell?

I just looove their fried okra and chicken n' dumplings. I also love their breakfast (they serve it ANY TIME of day- unlike that cheap skate McDonald's!)

They also play good 'ol Country music. Its so nice to listen to the sounds of Hank, Patsy, and Ernest Tubb, whilst eating instead of that jungle music they play at some restaurants.

I love their salads.
Ha ha, I thought I was the only one who called modern music "jungle music." My son hates when I call his music that.

At the Cracker Barrel near Richmond, I left a CD case on my table by mistake. It had 20 of my favorite CD's. I came back right after the table had been cleared by the teen bus boy and the tip was picked up by the teen waitress. However no one claimed to see the case of my CD's. I kept calling for a week to see if it had been turned in. It never was. It had all my best Jimmy Buffett and Van Morrison CD's in there too. No jungle music. I have never liked cracker Barrel ever since that happened even though it was my fault for leaving it there by mistake. I guess they figured Finders Keepers.

Whenever i go to Cracker Barrel I usually go with my Dora the Explora fan club. Everyone is invited to hang with me and the crew, but bring protection, the cosplay parties get wild

The first time I ate at a Cracker Barrel in Tennessee in 1993 I thought it was the best fucking chicken and dumplings I had ever had. Every Cracker Barrel I have been to since has tasted like shit. I must have eaten at one of the original ones in Tennessee because the ones I have eaten at in other states don't even compare.

Didn't there used to be one of these in Fairfax county years ago? I looked on their website and it's not listed, must have closed down I guess.

I ate at one in WV like 10 years ago. Pretty unmemorable experience. It's sorta like a Bob Evans.

The Cracker Barell in Williamsburg is excellent- better than the one in Ashland or west end Richmond or Chester.

I also think the Cracker Barrell near Front Royal is great too.

A question for you, Meade: how does one discern the different levels of quality among different Cracker Barrell locations? Is it like, "the one in Chester uses fresher oil in their deep fryer on Saturday nights", or "the meatloaf at the Williamsburg location is almost never lukewarm when they serve it"?

Thanks for getting back to me whenever you find the time to respond. This is actually sorta fascinating.

Meades critique of Cracker Barrell also answers the question; just how did he get so damn fat?

Its just overall quality of the meal- including service. Its hard to pinpoint exactly. But it is very true that in chain restaurants one can be really good, and another can be plumb awful.

Williamsburg is better because its a known fact that touristy places tend to have the best food- even the McDonald's are better. No one knows for sure why.

Compared to the average American- Meade isn't all that big.

Leave it to Southerners to come up with the idea of storing crackers in a fucking barrel. Doesn't that crush a bunch of the crackers? Doesn't it make it harder to get to the ones on the bottom? Surely a barrel isn't very air-tight. All of those crackers must get pretty stale quickly, right?

I once tried to eat at cracker barrel when I was a vegetarian (a phase that didn't last too long). I believe that there was not a single entree on their menu that was vegetarian. I had to order from the Sides menu.

Honestly, I've eaten there once or twice since then and don't ever recall being impressed. The food was kind of boring.

I love the hashbrown casserole, which they are always out of by time I get there. Apparently you have to get there when they open to get it, they only make a certain amount everyday.

That's because Vegatarian food sucks! With a few exceptions- hummus wraps aren't so bad, but 98% of it is bland and tasteless.

Vegetarian food can be absolutely wonderful. There is no reason for it to be bland or tasteless. Maybe you should learn how to cook, fat ass Meade.

Sorry Margie - I know I said that I'd be nice. But sometimes it is really hard.

Cracker Barrell is a place you go to when you're on a long highway trip and have no other options. Or, the kind of a place you visit when you need to take your grandparents out for dinner.

Talk about fucking lameness fer chrissakes

I usually get a Root Beer with the roast beef and gravy, mashed potatoes, fried okra, and turnip greens (With some vinegar sprinkled on of course). For desert the Ice Cream Sundae with molasses is crazy good.

That's a good point. You know every time the kitchen help reaches in the barrel a little spittle or maybe a facial hair is gonna fall in there. Gives new meaning to the term "bottom of the barrel"
