I was employed at the Roomstore and felt the need to change jobs. Does this answer your question.

Why? Have you heard rumors that they're going out of business?

They do that every year, kinda like those jewelry stores that have those liquidation/going out of business sales every year yet seem to always survive their pseudo-bankruptcy.

The problem is Americans are so fucking cheap now they will use that Sauder crap as real furniture in a $500K house.

Even the more pricey places that are supposed to have high quality furniture like Crate & Barrel, Arhaus, etc. are selling furniture with particle board. No one is demanding furniture that last several lifetimes anymore.

I blame IKEA. Most of their stuff is shit. It might look nice if you have an apartment in Finland, but it is just crap.

+1. IKEA has some cool furniture for kids' rooms but in the end, it's disposable because kids are hard on furniture. But otherwise I wouldnt own any of that crap. It's ugly to boot.

speaking of high end furniture stores is the cheapness of the american consumer of today partly to blame for the demise the Colony House after decades of being in business?

Don't like the new IKA tv commercials. They're ares o bland compared to the old ones.

Buying less expensive furniture is the way to go if you want to keep up with current trends/sytles. (Less expensive, not junk) Furniture has become replaceable. Why dump thousands of dollars into furniture that you will want to update down the road? 18th century cherry anyone? That's why Colony House is done.

Colony House is done because they never sold four poster beds with posts the size of the pillars of Hercules.

Particle board falls apart at the slightest provocation - like trying to move it a couple of feet. I've found some great deals on quality pieces on Craigslist. It's hit or miss - but I'm happy to take a piece someone is bored with for 80% off list price.

They announced chapter 11. But they are not going out of businesses. At least according to their website.
