Not host, but make a guest appearance.

I thought the show sucked when he was on it, but I gotta say the guy had a dynamite stand-up act in the days before all the buddy movies, the tranny chasing and the voiceovers for G rated schlock.

Hosting the Oscars, I never watch that shit but it may be tolerable with him on it.

Has he been roasted yet?

The show has always sucked, regardless of the comedians.

It went sour after the 70s crew left, Akroyd, Belushi, Murray, Radner, Newmann, Curtin, Chase were the best. Garret Morris was like the token black guy, he had a few funny periods, but not many.

No, the show has always sucked, except for a few skits. All this nostalgia for the 70s is bullshit, kids who grew up in the 80s think it was good until they grew up, same for 90s kids, etc. Try watching the 70s reruns, it's the same as today. 3 shitty skits for 1 or 2 good ones.

The shark at the door skit was pretty funny.

Late 70's SNL was funny, but you're right, it really lost the punch. Some of reruns are really lame.

I liked when Mike Myers and Chris Farly were on it, were good for occasional ha-ha's.

The whole setup is getting kind of played witht the opening monolgue whcih is usually cliched or predictable and the musical guests are usually a good finger on the pulse of how retarded many Americans are.

Rarely see it anymore but Weekend Update is usually funny and at least about something current.

I hate the Nutty Professor movies, what crap. But I give him credit, teh parts where he turns into "skinny asshole Eddie Murphy" are funny as shit, especially when he gets into a comedy fight with Dave Chapelle. That's the old-school Eddie I want to see again.

They were pretty good when they had Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, Michael Myers, David Spade, Chris Farley, and Adam Sandler at the same time. You need at least two strong impressionists to carry off the skits and Hartman and Carvey were two of the best.

Beverly Hills Cop 1 &2 were pretty good, the third one was horrible.

I can't see how you can say that. They had some funny episodes back then, with guest hosts like Steve Martin, William Shatner, Buck Henry, stuff was hilarious. Although I didn't care much for some of Chevy Chase's bits, like the news guy, I didn't find that material funny or "Rosanna Dana" which sucked.

Sure, they have always had some funny episodes. And a bunch of shitty ones. It goes in cycles, but over the 35 years of the show's run, it has been pretty consistently half and half. I still like to watch it, although only if there's nothing else to do.
