I can never understand why people look to entertainers for political views. Musicians can imply theirs through their music if they choose, but it pretty much ends there. Why would a news agency even ask an entertainer about their politics unless they're running for office somewhere.

And entertainers should know better than to offer their views without expecting a backlash. In this case, Hank Jr threw away his only gig, just so he could spout two sentences of nonsense that had absolutely NOTHING to do with what he's "famous" for.

Honestly, I don't understand the outrage. I voted for Obama and I found nothing offensive about what Hank Williams, Jr. said. We live in a country where freedom of free speech is a right. I don't agree with Hank's remarks, but I do agree with his right to say what he pleases short of the whole "fire in a theatre" deal. I certainly said far worse about Bush 2.0 so, I have no issue with righties expressing their feelings on the current administration.

No one is denying his right to free speech or trying to impede his or anyone elses right to say whatever they want, but that doesn't mean that whatever you say won't have a backlash. Everything you say or do in life has consequences and if you're okay with that, than you're free (legally) to say anything you want.

ESPN has decided to permanently drop the Hank Williams Jr. musical opening for "Monday Night Football," following the musician's comments on Fox News in which he appeared to compare President Obama to Adolf Hitler, reports The Huffington Post.

In a statement, ESPN said: "We have decided to part ways with Hank Williams, Jr. We appreciate his contributions over the past years. The success of ‘Monday Night Football’ has always been about the games and that will continue."

Williams responded on his website after learning of ESPN's decision, and in effect told ESPN don’t bother firing me, I quit. He [incoherently] wrote: “After reading hundreds of e-mails, I have made MY decision. By pulling my opening Oct 3rd, You (ESPN) stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song, and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE. It’s been a great run.”

As TVWeek previously reported, ESPN pulled Williams’ long-running “Are you ready for some football” opening from this week’s “Monday Night Football” telecast in the immediate aftermath of Williams’ controversial appearance on “Fox & Friends.” At that time it was unclear how long the ban would last, but the latest round of “he said/they said” appears to make it permanent.

I always thought the Hank Jr. thing sucked and was superfluous. I was kind of thinking ESPN was going to drop it when they took over the Monday Night game. Glad this shit is finally over. There's only one intro that matters....
